Hi fish. New reader here.

Reading your posts has almost made me cry. I have lost 2 beloved pets. One through the carelessness of my ex-SIL, who opened the door to our house and my sweet Jacqui ran away when presented with the chance. We had just moved to Oklahoma (in 1993) and we hadn't let her outside yet. I never could find her. And this after my SIL kept reminding everyone in our house not to let her cat out of the house b/c he was defenseless and missing one leg. We asked the same of her, but she was thoughtless. Bye Jacqui.

The second time, I lost my kitten, Haylee. We were once again moving back to Oklahoma (in 1999) and had stopped at a rest area. One of my children had opened the car door before I could place her in her carrier (she hated being penned up). And she was out like a shot, across the interstate and in some trees. My dad ran across and looked and we all called, but she never came back.

It is the most awful feeling to lose a pet you have loved. They love without question. While you are hurting inside, remember that she has taken fond memories of you with her as well. Wherever she is. She might be wondering how to find you. I will keep checking in and hope/pray that your old roommate finds her or she returns to her 'home', looking for you.

btw... I hate uhaul. I also hate ryder! When we were moving from Washington St. to Kansas in 1997, we had a terrible experience with Ryder. They had to eventually send out an 18-wheeler to tow it over 100 miles to my parents home. They wouldn't even take it another 30 miles to our home. They all suck. Made me want to sell everything I moved. Alas, I cannot part with that which I have acquired in this bizarre life of mine. Moving in less than a month, but less than 20 miles away, so we'll be moving it all by ourselves (w/ a company truck!), so no growling, cursing, kicking, stomping, scratching, or biting. :D

My new-ish kitty disappeared from my parents' house (the first night!) where she was staying while I was out of town for a week...she was missing that whole week, and another week after we got home, but she turned up at the doorstep after having taken her time to roam around and get lots of sex.

Mind you, this may be the dumbest kitty in the world, and she found her way back to a house that wasn't even hers. Don't give up hope. I'm pulling for you.

Fishy,

We are sending good thoughts to Kitty, so she will realize the error of her scaredy-cat ways and come back to Roommate. Best of luck in NYC. You are far braver than I.

V
