the good, the bad and the very fucked up

The good:

Spent Saturday morning puttering around, finally deciding to take a walk. Was enjoying misty wandering when happened upon local public library. Oh the joy! Books, movies, magazines. All... free. My lord, what happiness exists at the public library. Sequestered self in corner with Tom Robbins books and cleaned them out. Will be in paperback heaven for next two weeks.

Spent evening lazying about with Thin Blonde Girlfriend indulging in 7-layer bean dip, frozen margaritas and um, botanical things of the fun and relaxing nature. V. nice.

The bad:

Received much-awaited credit reports in the mail. Seems Identity Twin has been quite busy opening accounts, defaulting on them and then moving. Twenty-eight (four of which legitimately belong to yours truly) accounts and just as many different addresses -- the bitch has been v. active. Am not looking forward to v. long and drawn out clearing-up process that awaits.

The v. fucked up:

E-mailed J on Friday.

But only because was absolutely necessary. See, am owed money and since finding self in credit predicament that requires legal aid (am being sued by one creditor over Identity Twin's defaulting on $15,000 balance), found it absolutely necessary to collect on awkward debt.

J said would drop the cash round this weekend. Did he? Oh, no. Of course not. Now am being forced into yet another round of difficult email conversation to collect. Why, oh why? Do not want to answer J's "How are you?" email. Just don't. Just want to be able to say, "May I have my money, please?" and let it be over with.

Shall end up resorting to perks of Italian ancestry and sending thugs to his door. Never go up against a Sicilian when money is on the line.

You know who to call.

I think the number is 1-800-BASEBALL-BATS.

Never get involved in a land war in Asia, either.

The public library rocks. Not just books: the free movie "rentals" have helped us cope with the endless horrors about The War.

I hate the credit cards I have that are legitimate. Shame that scum can so readily bottom-feed on someone else's good credit. Best of luck!

Were these accounts opened after your wallet was stolen? You filed a police report. That report may help in your defense. Good luck- it sounds like a nightmare.

With increased attention on money these days I'm about to rediscover my old love the library. At least for every other bookclub book to start. Trouble is, I *like* having shelves filled with books at home...

a similar identity theft happened to my boyfriend, and it's endlessly frustrating, but he *did* get free of it. if that's any reassurance.

i had it in my mind this morning to ask you about that matrix shampoo, since i found it at the drugstore but it was twelve bucks and i'm trying to curb my weakness for magic products. if you say it's all that, though, i might have to try it. damned cowlicky hair.

To J, I think you should just say, "May I have my money, please?" and let it be over with. Your on the right track.

I second your notion about going up against a Sicilian. We have our reputation for a reason.

"Friends think it's quirky the way am genuinely frightened by violence."

Heh. ;-)

The sicilians have a point... just make sure your lawyer is Jewish...

Jitterbug Perfume is my favorite book! I'm also really fond of Still Life With Woodpecker and Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas. =)

Sorry to hear about that biatch, I sort of have the same thing except I'm the biatch ruining my credit history for myself.

And if you need someone to put the fear of Fish into J., let me know, but I think you can take him. =)

INCONCEIVABLE!

You keep using that word...I do not think it means what you think it means.

It's a quote from a movie, sweetheart. :)

I was just telling a friend last night that my problem with books is that I buy them and then cannot read them because I have "assigned" them to myself. I KNOW they are good books - not *only* because I picked them (because that *is* a legitimate reason) - but because they usually *say so* on them somewhere. But I have MOJO when it comes to picking books - I'm an expert at the "no-looking" pick (never read it except the back blurb or the title) - that's how I found Susan Westenhoffer -no, Susan Wienberger - no,...OH you know! the woman who wrote the book about the Bible and the Summer and --KINGSOLVER! Barbara Kingsolver - that's who I mean. See? I'm damn good. Dammit. [crosses arms and nods to self] hmf.

yeah barbara kingsolvers is great michael. i had a real emotional attachment to "animal dreams". "woodpecker..." was ok. tom robbins isn't as funny as everyone says he is.
