fish in the city

I have arrived.

It was funny, in that sort of, why-am-I-acting-like-such-a-doofus way, how hard it was for me to leave my apartment this morning. Roommate and I didn't say goodbye (we practice avoidance as a household religion), but I sure had a long parting with Kitten. My Girl E had to help things along and talk me into her car.

Just pretend you're going on vacation, she said.

Then, to get on that train. To have the patience to sit still for three and a half hours (I snoozed through Connecticut). And then to arrive at Penn Station and think, This is it.

I have arrived.

And I have already learned some fundamental New York City lessons. Not the least of which being how many times the little red hand blinks before you're pushing your luck in the crosswalk.

I start work in something like 10 hours. TEN HOURS. Ten. Sigh. So, in order to avoid a big bitch slap from Brian, I'll just get to the part where I convince myself that I am invincible.

I have arrived and this is really going to be great.

You should go back and get kitten and bring it with you now! My cat moved three thousand miles. That is comfort.

aww... i had to leave me cat when i moved away to school and i think she is still mad at me for it- everytime i go back home she tries really hard to ignore me but she eventually gives in!
it's super exciting that you moved to the big city. i am sure you will love it! good luck @ the job tomorrow :)

What? No kitten? My mum put my cat on a plane when I moved from SF to LA. He hated me for about 3 months, but got over it eventually.

I woke up this morning and couldn't put my finger on it - something was just better about this place. Now I know.

Welcome!

this may be premature, but

WHO'S HOSTING THE WELCOME FISH PARTY??

i'm yet another happy lurker, but i'm wondering...

Posted by: shakeit at March 29, 2004 10:09 AM

Hey I say Friday should be the Welcome Fish to NYC Party...hmmm but where to go...does Fish prefer somewhere chic or somewhere grungy-ish...so many decisions...the martini bar at the Marriott Marquis or Siberia? Hmmm....

Posted by: Brian, the 646 Guy at March 29, 2004 10:17 AM

Make it Siberia, or if you prefer ear-splitting heavy metal with leather and chains the Bellevue Bar is just around the corner. Since the last NYC BloggerBash I manage both now.

Welcome to Wonderland, you're going to need that kitten.!

I think Fish is a little busy at her new job today, but I wanted to make sure that everyone knew that she isn't leaving kitten forever, just for five days. She will be returning for her this weekend :)
