holy schnikes

Sunday mornings are built for New York Times spread out all over my living room floor and coffee and spending way too long in pajamas. NOT for dead panic, what-the-fuck moments of frenzy. So when, to my complete horror, I woke up this morning to find that thisfish.com no longer existed (despite the fact I’d paid for my domain renewal several days, maybe a week ago), I was sorta miffed.

First, I called Paul, while still in the Sorta Miffed stage. If anyone would know anything, it would be the guy who built my site all that time ago. I lamented into his voicemail.

Then, moving into the More than Sorta Miffed stage, I opened the first of nine tickets with the support function of my hosting company (who was supposed to have taken care of the renewal). I freely admit to using too many capital letters.

I IMed with Sarah. Thankfully, brunch was off. Because shower? How can I shower when I’m into Fully Miffed stage and why haven’t those monkeys fixed my site yet?

Thirty minutes had passed -- which, in reasonable person time is nothing. But I wasn’t feeling reasonable. My Sunday morning got jacked, and that’s excuse enough for me to continue using way too many capital letters until the problem is resolved.

Which I think it is now. At least, I have my email back (phew!) and I'm seeing pink (you know, instead of seeing red? Sorry. Had to be done).

Thank GOD you're back. I panicked...and thought maybe you were 'throwing in the blog'. Phew.

Posted by: J. at February 20, 2005 11:50 AM

I was afraid people would think that! That I was pouting or something. Gah.

welcome back heather...

I was thinking that you threw the blog too. Reading your blog has become a daily ritual with me and I was a bit miffed myself when I typed it in this morning and it was no longer there.

Welcome back Fish,
I, like many others would sorely miss you if you were gone.

Posted by: Iferlynn at February 20, 2005 01:09 PM

I also wondered if you'd chucked it. Glad that everything is okay! Hope your day improves.

i figured it was some monkey mixup that wasn't your doing. i saw you online this morning and thought rather than pester you re: the obvious, i'd just be patient and hope that you'd sort it out. and patience paid off...in pink! whew. welcome back, h! :)

Gotta say that it was the calmest freak-out message I've ever heard on my phone...

Posted by: Frankenstein at February 20, 2005 02:13 PM

I had a minor panic attack, thought for a moment the trolls had won and thisfish had moved somewhere and started over. And I wondered if I'd ever stumble on your blog again because for me it is a daily read.

But I thought I'd give it just one more try and THANK HEAVEN you're back. I really did miss thisfish while it was gone.

I'm glad it was all remedied, although I admit you lost me in the middle of the post, where it sounded a lot like blah blah hosting company, and various other words that I still don't understand, and probably never will.

You dont understand...I clicked on your bookmark this morning and it was GONE!!! I clicked all my other bookmarks and they worked...THAT was panick mode... what will I read with my coffee? What will I do during the morning cigarette? I tried every computer in the house and nothin....talk about confusion. So glad youre back!! whew!

Welcome back! I could not bare deleting your link from my blog... No more panic moments for your readers!! it's not nice! ;)

Welcome back!

Whew! I am certainly glad you're back up and running! I just started a new blog myself and you're on of only three links (so far). I'd hate to have my list cut by a third.

If only I'd thought to register your domain name while it was in limbo. I could have been the new queen of the internet!

Ok. I have a confession to make. I don't read this blog daily.:(

So, leave it to me to stop by the day it went away... or so I thought.

Good to see your still around.

Late again as usual. Agree with previous readers. Was sad for a bit thinking you'd left us...

Oh fishie fish...don't stress so much. Your hair will fall out or you will get shingles.

Trust me, I know.

Posted by: robin alexa at February 20, 2005 11:37 PM

LOL! I thought you'd been hacked! I'm glad to be seeing pink again too! ;)

Posted by: AdventureGirl at February 21, 2005 05:06 AM

Gahh. My hosting place at least sends me a threatening email before they do anything like that. I'm glad I didn't click over when the site was down, I'd have thought this fish had given up the ghost.

Oh, and no one should EVER feel bad about using too many capital letters.

Posted by: vague at February 21, 2005 07:29 AM

I got a lot panicked!

Posted by: Tammi at February 21, 2005 07:32 AM

Thankfully, I'm in the wrong timezone to have directly experienced this... I learned of it reading this post, and slept thru the whole episode.

Wrecking a sunday morning is a heinous crime. How will they make it up to you?

Welcome back, in any case!

welcome back to the virtual world.... for a moment, i thought the martians had taken over your site. :-(

glad to know that you are back safe and sound... you are one lucky girl!!!

I read your post two posts down about the anonymous insulter person and am posting this here because the comments were closed down there (sorry if this isn't cool). Maybe consider posting a link to The Standard Blogger's Disclaimer on yr front page?

It's pretty freaking comprehensive and very clear.

So this has nothing to do with this post but everytime I go to your site I think "this fish this fish, its criminal. this fish this fish, unstoppable." Like you know, to the tune of that country song "this kiss this kiss" I don't know who its by. I don't know the words either.

Posted by: notguilty at February 21, 2005 07:41 PM

Cool. Another person that uses the phrase "holy schnikes." I'm not alone in the world!
