lion’s share

It’s the month of March, I believe, that folks say comes in like a lion. Meaning the disposition of  the weather, of course. Well, it’s March today and though the sun is out, the sky is crisp and spring is sprung, around here – be it a lion or some other cranky beast -  something is certainly roaring.

If you thought planning a wedding, getting robbed, buying a house and all that goes with that is a special sort of mayhem, something else fairly large-and-in-charge is now afoot at the Circle K.  One of those, I’ll tell you something when there’s something to tell things, so you’ll have to hold your proverbial horses for a bit. No, it’s not babies, you hush your mouth.

Getting ready for bed last night, I leaned forward to check out the stellar collection of under eye luggage I’m sporting these days and whispered to my reflection, “I don’t know how you’re supposed to do all this.” The answer was right there in front of me. On the counter. In an amber colored prescription bottle.  My doctor may have ignored my repeated phone calls but my mother didn’t.  Ah, the miracle of modern medicine. Say what you will about self medication, but one teeny white pill and I’m sleeping the sleep of a fat, happy baby, blissfully unaware of this thing called growing up and this other thing called, anxiety.

Speaking of fat, I did push ups. Five. And fairly sorry I did even that many. Washing my hair was a bit difficult this morning which felt a little pathetic, but I told myself all I needed was some time and persistence and I’d get my yoga arms back and I felt a little better. Then I gave myself credit for daily flossing and felt a whole lot better. That shit’s gonna pay off in like, forty years for sure.

There are a lot of opinions out there about sleeping medication. My brother is clean and sober (over six years) but works a swing shift. Nights during the week and days during the weekend. He was not sleeping enough. After much discussion with both a doctor and his sponsor, he’s on medication.
Sleep is crucial. You know yourself better than anyone else, so as long as it helps you and youre not becoming dependant, rock on and ignore the nay-sayers.

No one can function with little/no sleep, so I’m glad to hear you’ve taken care of that. I’m so nasty when I don’t get enough sleep – even the dog is like, ummm I’ll stay waaay over here today.

  • Ahhh, sleep. Love it!!

I remember some posts back you were asking for book recommendations. I’d recommend this:

Read that one and LOVED it. Wonder if that means I should avoid the movie when it comes out? They always ruin it.

      • I have yet to see a movie version of a book that I enjoy.
Well, I do like the Harry Potter movies, but still prefer the books. It’s just so hard to translate an amazing story into a movie.

Robert Pattinson is incapable of ruining anything. The script writers… maybe. At the very least go for the eye candy.

  • Good thing you included the “no it’s not babies” because my proverbial horses were already off and running in that direction!

    Remember, push the floor away!

  • I want some fat happy baby sleep.

It’s lovely. But I’m dead set on not *needing* a little white pill to fall asleep, so here’s to winging it tonight!

While I know there will be many that will be against taking any type of medication to help you sleep, I say good for you! You need to sleep – its too crucial to putting the anxiety and stress behind you. Without sleep it only exacerbates the feelings and creates such a vicious circle.

Glad you got some good sleep finally and keeping tuned to your new tidings. :-)

  • Good on you! I feel like I’m doing well if I remember my weekly floss (I set achievable goals), and I’m not planning a wedding or buying a house and haven’t been robbed.

Yeah, well, to keep balance in the Universe, I went to bed last night without brushing my teeth or anything. A girl has her limits.

I didn’t post it before, but I have been totally with you on the flossing daily. I got a little lazy while on vacation last week, but now I am back at it every day. I figured its one small step towards total body domination. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • How exciting – I hope! You already have a lot going on. Extra credit to you for recognizing the importance of sleep. I’m thinking, some great new project? Maybe a book?? I’ll be waiting to hear. BTW, Congrats on your impending home purchase — I bought in Dallas in late 2009. Best decision I’ve made! (Worst one? My closing was the Friday before the Monday that we picked a jury for a 6 week trial — I’m a paralegal. Can you say, “stress?”. I didn’t know what was involved in home buying — I was an idiot. But, I was not homeless when the jury came back: BONUS.).

We’re neighbors! As far as home buying, I’m just hoping to get to the point where I’m not having dreams about contracts. THAT would be awesometown.

Ambien CR has been my friend on many occasions. Especially when going from a graves shift to a day shift. body cannot switch fast enough on its own.

Moms are the best for stuff like that, aren’t they? Excited to hear your news :)

My mother’s medicine cabinet is like a freakin’ treasure chest. I’m such an Advil for Everything girl, I don’t really branch out into all that wonderment.

Five push-ups is three more than I can do!

    • thisfish

Today I did ten! TEN WHOLE PUSH UPS. Seriously, I feel like there should be a medal or a parade or something.

  • I agree with others above: Thanks for clarifying that it’s not about a baby.

Also, you didn’t ask for advice, but what’s the internet for but unsolicited opinions? Sleeping pills make me really drowsy in the morning, but melatonin helps me get to sleep and also doesn’t make me drowsy in the morning. (Some say it’s a more natural option than many other sleep aids, but, c’mon. In my eyes, a pill’s a pill, for the most part.)

  • Oh no, Fish! Don’t pull a Bethenny Frankel (wedding, baby, book simultaneously)!

(Actually, go ahead and do it. That woman got a TV show and great publicity for her book out of it…even though my mother refuses to watch her show after seeing her pee in a trash can on her wedding day. Umm…yeah.)

Also, a little Klonopin never hurt anyone, honey. Do what you need to do and carry on.

I’m with Klarissa: whatever you need to do to get some sleep, you do it. Not sleeping is way unhealthier. I have melatonen at home in my medicine chest, which helps. (Of course, it helps even more if you actually take it, since about one half hour after I take it, I am dead to the world!) Good vibes for you!!
