Today I took my lunch break at the vet’s office, this time with Mama Cass, who is going to have her baby making factory closed, posthaste. Right now, I’m waiting for Dr. Jim to call me and let me know if her blood tests come back negative for Scary Cat Diseases. He told me that he will suggest putting her down if they’re positive (Mama is feral, will never be an inside cat, and would only spread these Scary Cat Diseases around the ‘hood). I don’t know if he realized how unprepared I was to hear him say that, but I’m due for a bit of reality in Heather’s Wild Kingdom, I suppose.
Update
Mama Cass is negative for any Scary Cat Diseases, out of surgery and everything went fine. She’s spending the night at the vet so that tomorrow we can release her back into the wild.
Thinking healthy cat thoughts.
Oh Heather – your heart is too good! I wish that there was a way to make it easier for you – but I can’t. I can relate though!! We took in a cat – actually it adopted us – while it was pregnant (we didn’t know!!) then she had MAJOR problems delivering those babies. Quickly took her to the animal hospital and $2000 later we had two kittens on our hands. We kept one and gave the other to a friend. All was OK in our world until Hurricane Irene brought a lost dog to our door that we have taken in until its owner can be found . . . Its never ending. Its heart gripping. Its all we can do . . .
Glad you caught her! I remember sitting in vet’s office waiting for word on Baby Dutchess who was 1 year old, pure white, green eyed puffball. The “Baby” is now 11 years old and still lovable healthy kitty. Hoping the same for Mama Cass.
I’m hoping for the best. Either way, Heather, you’ve done the right thing. Amen to that.
Hoping for the best!
Well hell. Hope Mama is healthy.
We had a semi-feral cat that showed up shortly after we moved into our house during a major snowstorm. Boyfriend started feeding her and, as such, she continued to be a fixture on our porch. One day last spring she showed up with an obviously damaged eye. I couldn’t bear to watch her suffer and turning her over to a shelter where she’d likely be put down seemed almost as bad. I borrowed a trap from a local animal shelter and paid to have the eye examined and, ultimately, removed. Then moved her into my guest bathroom for 21 days while she recovered. I felt like such a crazy cat lady, but it was the only course of action that let me sleep at night. 6 months later she’s clearly my pet and has turned into a totally tame lovebug. Gold star to you from a fellow bleeding hearted accidental crazy cat lady.
Hooray for Modern Medicine!
Glad to hear you were finally able to catch mama. Even better news that she is now fixed and free of scary cat diseases.
Well done, Heather!
Hopefully now you will see a decline in Kitty Drama.
Glad that Mama Cass is healthy and soon-to-be non-fertile!! (I wonder if she will wonder why the boy cats don’t come around any longer…..)
Good on you for spending time, money and effort to take care of little helpless creatures in the middle of your own personal problems. The world needs more people like you! Praying it all gets sorted soon, both for the cats and the humans!
Yay for Mama Cass and for your kind heart!
yay, happy ending!
Worried about you and your being so quiet. hope you are okay
I agree with Beth… I’ve been wondering the same thing. Hope you are getting some rest and are doing well!
Ditto.
Let us know you’re ok, kiddo.
I’m alive
Ok. Awesome.
Happy to see that smile!
Thinking of you! Hope all is well.
