italy

It is the capital of Awesome.

I have found a laundromat in Turin, and now I have clean, really clean, clothes. I have eaten Parmesan risotto, had what has to be the realest, yummiest espresso ever, and now, I’m going to go on a walk and take some pictures. There is a skinny mirror in my hotel, the towels as big as ME, and I’ve been drinking wine all day long.

This place is okay by me.

The camera: is a point-and-shoot, Pentax Optio M10. Flickr has a nice little write-up on it.

  • I’m so jealous! Glad you are having a great time. Clean clothes are always a nice thing too.

YAY! no more smelling like feet! and the idea of drinking wine all day long, in Italy, where there are very sexy boys – makes me very happy for you. :)

  • Ha! Skinny mirror! Those are my favorite kind of mirrors!! :)

Hey, if you need a place to stay in the province of Umbria, check out http://www.umbriaapartments.com/

My husband and I stayed there for our honeymoon. Very reasonably priced, very beautiful.

Everything seems to be “-est” overseas. Color me green with envy.

  • one word: Gelato.

Authentic Italian Gelato (ok, that’s three words).

The mirror is physically skinny? Or the mirror makes you LOOK skinny? If #2, then I’ll have a ticket to Italy and another helping of risotto, please.

  • colour me green with jealousy! it sounds like you and italy are making friends … i wanna be friends with italy!!! ;)

  • Hi Heather,

Just wanted to say that your travel blog has reignited my desire to travel. I have just been dumped (but nicely) by the first guy I’ve had the nerve to really care about in 5 years. It’s left me feeling totally despondent and uninterested in everything, including the travel plans I had. Then, I read your travel blog and now I’ve remembered how much fun it’s going to be, and probably even more fun now I’m single! Thanks for reminding me that the world has not actually ended and is, in fact, still out there. xx

  • Italy is heaven on earth. And nothing there is fattening. Really, it isn’t.

  • Italy is heaven on earth. And nothing there is fattening. Really, it isn’t.

Can’t wait to see your pictures!

  • right now; I wish I could transport to your life IMMEDIATELY!!!

  • I can’t wait to visit. It is one of the choices of my man and I, for our honeymoon ;)

  • Oh I SOOO can’t wait to hear about your adventures in the Cinque Terre. My tips: do the hike between all the towns. If you start in Monterosso and work to Riomaggiore, the going will be rought and spectacular at first, getting easier (and less interesting) as you go. Or do it the opposite way if you want to save the wows till the end.

Also? Seriously try to do what the guide books talk about and show up by train and go with the people offering you a place to stay. Stop at any town (Vernazza is my fave) and guarantted there will be people at the station asking to rent you a room. It sounds sketchy, but it’s really not, and SO worth it. You’ll often get amazing views and a little more of a local feel by doing that. Best tip: go see three and pick the best one.

    Welcome to Italy! :)

    I’m super jealous!

  • First the best espresso ever? And then drinking wine all day? God. I think I am jealous. Very jealous.

“When the moon hits the sky like a big pizza pie, that’s amore…” Have you been serenaded yet?

  • Ah, ITALY. I love Italia! It’s my second-favorite country after France, where my heart will always remain. But Italian food, Italian art, Italian music, Italian coffee — ah, it’s all so fabulous! And I just wish I could go back more often… Haven’t been back since May 2005, when I spent a long weekend in Rome with my boyfriend. I’d love to make a trip back to Florence again. You’ve got to go through Tuscany, if you can! Vive l’Italia!

OH, and Mister Oregon is absolutely right with the gelato — you’ve GOT to experience the gelato, numerous times if at all possible!

I’m moving to martha’s vineyard this week & I want a new camera to take pictures over there. That camera you’ve been using is awesome. what kind is it???

  • Italy is my favorite country ever. No lack of hot male attention there – and man, they know how to eat.

I am so jealous right now.

Beware of gelato with bright color. The good stuff never relies on food coloring and is made with real fruit so will look slightly greyer. I had lemon gelato that had SEEDS in it! Gelato should be eaten every day, IMO.

  • I was in a swanky hotel like that (I think it was Motel 6) and I was in love with the giant towels too – but the housekeeper lady got pissed off and said that was the bedspread. :-(

Glad you’re having a good time. Also, ditto on the clean clothes. Nothing better!

TOTALLY curious about the parmesan risotto – now you’ve made me hungry!! :)

Enjoy the rest of your trip!!

  • It sounds like you are having a delicious trip, but I think it’s time you taste some of Italy’s other dishes… What’s that saying? Oh yeah. What happens with men who don’t speak English stays at the border. Unless, that is, you have a blog and you care to share it w/ the rest of us hungry visitors.

    :-)

Turin is awesome! If you can, there’s a restaurant on the river Po called White Owl or something that has a terrific apperitivo
