no champagne for the mucous queen

It started early in the evening, while I was digging through the closet for some New Year’s finery. I noticed that my back hurt. Ooh, and my shoulders. And my knees and wrists and…

An hour later, I was sitting on the sofa, a thermometer shoved in my mouth, when Jen called to nail down our reveling plans. I suggested we play it by ear.

“I kind of have a bit of a fever.”

“How much of a bit?”

“Um, a hundred? And one. Point four.”

“Heather! That’s a real fever.”

“I know, I know. But I think it’s going down. I’m going to rally!”

“Oh no, you’re not.”

And no, no I wasn’t. I spent my New Year’s Eve curled up in the fetal position, watching a Law & Order marathon. I didn’t even make it to midnight. Hell, I didn’t make it to 10. There was no champagne, no midnight kissin’ and no drunk texting. Except for the one I got from my dad, but that’s a story for another time.

Anyway, I should be back to regular posting in a few days, after my brain cools down and I’ve relinquished my reign as the Mucous Queen. Hopefully, before it becomes necessary to be surgically removed from my couch.

Hope you’re back on your feet again soon, Heather!

I hear ya! That’s how I spent my NYE too. Hope 2008 is a good year for you and you feel better soon!

Ohh!! That was me for three years running, this is the first year I’ve gotten to go have the New Year’s Revelry. I’m sorry you feel so icky. Get well soon!

Oh no! I’m so sorry… I had what I thought was food poisoning, but turned out to be some nasty flu-like bug. I didn’t make it to ten oclock either. I hope you’re feeling better!

Apple Cider Vinegar…2 TBSP in 8 oz water as many times a day as you can drink it down…I swear. It helps. Many, many issues. I tried it as an absolute last resort earlier this year and swear by it now. check it out on the…interweb and feel better soon!

Ugh. I was sick for Christmas with a nasty fever and mucous monsters. Fortunately I have no family around so don’t celebrate it and could spend days on end lying on the couch watching House. I did, however, celebrate New Years. No champagne or midnight kisses or drunk texts for me either. Actually, that’s not true, my girlfriends kissed me but they were just platonic pecks on the cheek. So here’s a virtual celebratory ’08 lip-lock for my favourite Fish – Mucous Queen and all :)

  • Hope you are feeling better, Fish! It is no fun being sick; feeling feverish is not the greatest either. I usually end up in the hospital (fevers are dangerous for me) but no one I know celebrates the sniffles.

I am looking forward to more insightful posts from one of the hottest woman writers on the Web! Fish, you are quite a catch!

In exactly the same boat… Woke up Christmas morning with a sore throat and have been going through Kleenex like a champ ever since. I suffered through a flu shot for this???

SO sorry to hear that. I had it as well – a couple days of pure Hell then back to normal. In the interim, I hope you have someone to take care of you, at least a little bit. :)

Feel better soon, your highness! My mom-in-law had the same thing on New Year’s Eve. I’d just gotten over stomach flu, and my kids had been sick as well, so we feel your pain!

Jamie, hope you’re on the mend! Our pediatrician told me that flu shots don’t necessarily lessen a person’s chance of getting the flu all that much. What it’s good for is that the more people who get it, the less it spreads throughout the community.

Not quite sure I fully understand, but I decided I’m just not altruistic enough to put myself through that for the good of my neighbors. Yep, I’m that selfish. I guess the truth hurts. But not as much as a flu shot.

I found myself in the same situation this New Year’s Eve. Fortunately, my head is starting to finally clear! (Ugh! Hate it!!) Sorry to hear, Fish. Hang in there…

  • That was me over Christmas. Sucks, eh?

Hope you get better real soon and don’t have the yukky stuff I’ve been coughing up…

  • Detective Stabler couldn’t even make you feel better? You must have been near death. I bet he would have been really rough with that fever. Miranda rights my ass.

  • I had the plague for Christmas and a case of the ex-fiance’ avoidance plan for New Years. Get soup, a blankie, a comfy couch, kleenex, and some movies. And get well! I’m superstitious that how I spend New Year’s day is how the whole year will go- at least you won’t be hung over all year…

  • Aw Fish :(

Remember.. just keep swimmin, just keep swimmin…

    :)

    Feel better soon

  • Hang in there – hope you feel better soon. : )

Hope you get to feeling better soon!!

It’s that time of year :( The stomach bug went around my whole family, and then for me went straight to the allergy/sinus crap! Anyways, plenty of fluids, Mucinex, and sleep all around. Hope the red couch is keeping you comfy as you get better and stare at the television. Happy New Year!

  • Fish? I don’t want to be too nosy, but it seems like you’ve been sick quite a bit lately. Take care of yourself, and go to the doctor if you need to.

  • Over here in Britain doctors are telling people to stay at home for as long as they want because there’s some dreadful lurgi that’s really really contagious. So contagious that the docs say nobody should visit them even.

It’s nice to live in an interesting country just once in a while (and we don’t count the illegal wars).

  • Yep, I feel your pain, I spent NYE curled upon the couch with a rockin’ migraine. Good times.

  • I WISH that’s what I had done. Unfortunately, I was the one throwing the New Year’s party and at about 10:30, I started sneezing, feeling miserable, and wishing everyone would just go home (not that I didn’t dearly love all the guests). When they finally left, I curled into a ball and wished to sleep for the next 3 days … except I had to pick up my dear daughter from her grandma’s house. Here’s to getting better quickly!

  • Feel better girlie, take good care!
