shredded – the p.s.

You’ll get a real post later, but I just wanted to share that Jillian Michaels (my new favorite love/hate relationship) will be at the iVillage offices on Monday answering questions and making everyone do push-ups. Okay, maybe she won’t make them do push-ups, but that’s what I imagine her doing. Regardless, this is awesome.

If you want to submit a question for the no-nonsense shredding trainer, go here. I’m going to have put some serious thought into mine, because I don’t suppose, “Will you come live at my house and make me freakin’ hot?” counts as a reasonable question.

If you’re lookin’ for an update, I’m on Day 8, and really digging it. I’ve dropped that extra pound, lost three more and my shoulders are starting to look like they used to before I fell in love with Lazy McTelevision. Sayonara, Lazy. I was way too good for you, anyway.

I CANNOT wait until my Shred DVD arrives in the mail!!!

Just want you to know, Fish, you’ve inspired me. I’ve been feeling really blah and the two times a week I am able to make it to the gym aren’t cutting it anymore – especially when life gets in the way and I don’t even go then (I’ve got two kids, single mom, blah blah blah…). ANYWAY… it occured to me, after reading Shredded that I could use the old TV in my basement, get a cheap DVD player and work out in my basement every morning at 6 (not 5:45 – that makes me want to cry) before I get my kids up. There should be a Jillian DVD from Netflix in my mailbox when I get home today. So I’ll be thanking you (cursing you) at 6 a.m. tomorrow. Thanks!

  • Melissa

Congrats on making it to Day 8! I’ve added the Shred DVD to Netflix too. The fiance and I did another one of Jillian’s workout DVDs, together, in our super small condo, while the kitten sat there and stared. I’m hoping this one is just as good!

i just got mine in the mail today and can’t wait to try it out!

  • jjenni7

Mine is on the way! You should ask Jillian if you can work out how to get your commission from increased sales due to your blog. =)

Ok… I’m definitely a little lost here today. What are we doing and where do I get the information??! Thanks! :)

    Um, scroll down?

Wow – good for you! As someone who’s been struggling to lose 5-7 pounds for months – doing a fair amount of cardio and weights per week..probably not watching what I eat as much as I should…I’m curious about your results. 4 pounds in 8 days seems…well, amazing. Were you going from not working out at all to this workout? Are you modifying your diet, too, or are the results strictly from the exercise? In any case – congrats on the success!

  • Julie

That’s it, I’m going to Target tonight and buying it! My wedding is in 17 days and I need that last extra bit of GRRR to look fabu in my dress!

  • Ana

So, I keep on hearing different things about Shredded. How in shape were you before? (I’m in pretty bad shape could lose 30 lbs). I’m afraid that I’ll buy the DVD and then be unable to do any of the work outs, or even get into the right positions… Thoughts?

    Thanks! Keep it up!

  • CaliGal

    Thank you. :)

And congrats on your recent success through this program.

  • Hey Ana,

Don’t worry if you’re not in great shape, Jillian has one of her “girls” do modified exercises that are a little easier so you can work your way up. It’s a tough workout, but not impossible, even if you’re not in great shape. Just start out with 3 pound weights or soup cans, and you’ll be fine. Its definitely worth the investment, I promise. If not, I’ll send you ten bucks for it… :-)

    Good luck!

  • Aw crap. You’re motivating me.

  • Ashley

Good for you! I am preparing to get back into the gym after about 3 weeks of letting myself be lazy. While I probably wont be getting the shredded DVD (mostly because the S.O will complain about our wasted gym memberships) I am going to pick up “Make the Cut” by Jillian.

I am wondering though, how in shape were you before. I am trying to loose 10 lbs max. What is your diet like?

    Keep up the good work!

  • jjenni7

Anna, if you work your way into it you’ll be fine. You don’t have to be able to do everything perfectly when you start a program. If that were the case, no one would be fit. It’s going to be a struggle in the beginning but your body will adjust as you get healthier and stronger. good luck and go for it.

Your previous blog “shred” inspired me to buy and overnight the DVD from Amazon. I started last night and now walk with a very noticeable “bow” between my legs. Level 1 was deceptively easy. My 7 year old daughter did the routine with me and managed to get through the whole thing with a huge smile on her face. On the other hand, I was sucking air by the end of 20 minutes. I hope I fair better in the next 29 days.

Good luck on your next 22 days! I hope you reach your goal.

    Cheers!

I’m not very skilled with coordination, and moves (like aerobics, step etc…). Is this DVD super hard to follow? I sound like a dufus just asking this question, but with all the results you’ve had it’s worth a shot.

  • This couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve hung a HOT bikini in my room as motivation because I workout 5 days a week and haven’t been able to lose the weight. I’m ordering it now and praying for a miracle :)

    Thanks and congrats!

  • How is it possible that I have not heard of this? I imagine Jillian Michaels is my inner self on days when I refuse M&M’s and workout with that slightly heavier set of dumbells at the gym… that other 80% of the time I think i spend the days like I’m the only kid without witnesses at Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.

Perhaps purchasing said discussed DVD and pausing it at a moment when Jillian is looking straight into the camera will scare me straight. After all there’s only so much time you can have Michaels staring at you without getting the heebie jeebies… and simultaneously having a need to grab a carrot and jog in place.

  • Alyssa

Thanks for recommending the Shred. I’ve been having trouble getting myself to workout at an an intense level (I’ve been “phoning it in” on the elliptical lately). The 30 day challenge has definitely upped the intensity factor. I did Level 3 this morning just to see what it was like…it was definitely tough.

  • I know she was there today and I missed my chance but… did she say anything about diet? Cause I’m pretty active but can’t seem to kick start the weight loss even WITH the DVD. I’m just curious how much harm my diet is doing here? Or if i just need to work out more and more?

    Alyssa –

You did Level 3… just to see what it is like? You’re a machine! Or a crazy person. But I’m guessing you’re just way, way tougher than I will ever be. I’ve only gone so crazy as to add 5 lbs weights to a few exercises (see? 5 is bigger than 3! I am a MANIAC!).

Tiffany – maybe you don’t need to lose any more weight? I have been eating a lot of lean protein (soy, nuts, egg whites) and skipping anything refined. All my carbs are coming from oatmeal or whole grain cereals.

  • Since it seems to be a common question, let’s discuss diet. I try to stick to whole grains, lean proteins and fruits & veggies. I have a long way to go to meet my Boo! Cholesterol! goal (retesting December 8).

I eat every two hours. At least.

Breakfast: egg white omelet with cilantro, green onion, 1/8 avocado and 1/8 cup shredded parmesan.

Lunch: Amy’s vegetarian stuff (burrito, Shepherd’s pie), or some sort of Boca soy product (currently loving the new Bruschetta).

Dinner: Steamed veggies (broccoli, snow peas, edamame, green beans – whatever’s handy), chicken or soy or Amy’s something-or-other. Sometimes, a bowl of cereal (Fiber One Honey Clusters) if I’m really freaking tired.

Snacks (spaced throughout the day): Oatmeal, 1/4 c almonds, apple, yogurt with 1/2 cup Fiber One, 1 cup frozen berries with 1/4 cup skim milk, string cheese

  • Krys

I did the 30 day shred and LOVED IT!!! It delivered ALL the result it promised. The only negative is I learned I do NOT like fennel. Or, maybe that’s a positive so I can avoid it in the future. Anyway, best of luck to you!!

I just (pre)ordered Jillians new fitness workout game for Wii Fit, it comes out later this month. I can’t WAIT, I love the Wii Fit, but it got a little boring. I think this will be just the kick I need. I also like 30 day shred, I haven’t done 30 days in a row though.
