baked goods & kissin’

Ari:  All of my shoe/feet complaints have taught you nothing?! Did they at least have the decency to look great?

Heather: Have we MET? Of course they did. I got them at Target.

Ari: That’s my girl!

My feet are killing me. Obviously a lot has been going on and I have tons to dish about, but right now the only thing I can concentrate on is the throbbing pain in my poor tootsies. My new position is very… social – an aspect of the job which delights me exceedingly; it just happens to mean less time sitting at my desk admiring my new shoes and more time actually piloting around in them.  I know. Hard knock life. Two days in and I’m looking into getting a one of those senior citizen scooters. You know, like a Rascal. Because in two more days, the damage just might be permanent. Bright side: if both of my big toes fall off, I’ll get to buy smaller shoes. Closed-toed, naturally, but think of all the options!

This morning, my high school Spanish teacher and Facebook friend Phoebe (Gracious! I’m an alliterative genius!) determined that I need “a big hunka man” in my life – specifically, in my bed. Because I’m 30 years old and afraid of thunder. Judge away, I don’t care, because that shit scares me senseless. And according to Phoebe, a big hunka man lying next to me in bed would go a long, long way to easing my terror. Seeing as calling for the cat and hiding under my pillow doesn’t seem to work, I’m totally on board with The Big Hunka.  Especially if when not on thunderstorm duty, he was ammenable to rubbin’ some feet. In return, I’d pay handsomely in baked goods and kissin’.

  • That seems like a totally fair trade to me. I like this bartering idea…it could really work for me. I am an excellent baker and I, too, like to smooch. And hell if I don’t have a huge knot in my shoulder that could use a little work from some strong hands. I hadn’t even considered these possibilities…

As we like to call them in Kansas “Tar-ZHAY” & the other famous store “Jacque C Pen-NAY” are frequent haunts.

There is much to be said for curling up to a big hunka when the thunder is rolling and the winds pick up.

    Congrats on the job!

Yay! Congrats on the new job!

  • oh there is nothing i am more amenable to than rubbin against some baked goods.

also: i may have read this too fast.

What about a link to the shoes in question? The last footwear I bought at Target were flip-flops – just haven’t seen anything I like there in a long time… though my compulsive shopping at DSW seems to fill the closet nicely.

Wasn’t that storm last night a doozey? It went on all friggin’ night long too! I’m over in Irving, and I disconnected all my computers and TVs before bed, but I still felt like lightning and thunder was all about me. You’d think it was spring or something!!!!

On the other hand, unlike you, I actually love storms ;)

  • CONGRATS on the job!!! :)

And, while I know this must sound totally tacky…investing in a solid pair of Naturalizers (I know, I know…judge me) is your best bet. As a photographer, I’m on my feet for 10 hours and I bought a pair of semi-cute flats and they have been my best friend. Really. Well, those shoes and a foot rub from my dog.

I know they’re expensive, but my Tory Burch ballet flats are the best investment ever. I get tons of compliments on them and they’re extremely comfortable. If I wear heels, I always pack them in my purse. When I only had them in one color, I decided my outfits based on whether I could wear them with those shoes. Finally, I caved and bought a second pair.

I second Jasmine’s suggestion — i have a (not ugly!) pair of Naturalizers that I love. I also bought a pair of black heels by a brand called “Madeline”, which I swear by — they’re so comfy. I hope you can find some.

    Wooo! Yah Fish!

  • Dansko’s are the shoe answer you want. Comfortable yet stylish ;)

When I started my new job 6 months ago, the hardest thing was the big increase in walking. Now I have a few really hot pairs of shoes that I can’t wear to work…so sad.

  • Oh…big hunka man….Sounds delightful ;)

I’m 26 and scared to death of the dark, so don’t feel bad.

do you have the gel insoles from dr scholls?? I never knew of them till my sister just introduced me to them, and they are amazing! Fit in boots, pointies, ballet’s.. love love love them!

  • a hunka man definitely goes a long way for comfort in bed…mmmm….

    New job sounds like fun!

I’m onboard with the Spanish teacher! If you find that Big HunkA Man will you see if he has a brother that live in the KC area…hahaha CONGRATS ON THE JOB.

  • Congratulations on the new job! I can’t wait to hear more about it.

If your footwear can be semi-casual, I suggest low heel clogs. I just got some new ones at a Bass shoe store outlet. I believe there is one at the outlet mall in Allen.

Well I have a ridiculous fear of ghosts so I can never sleep with all the lights off, at least thunderstorms are sporadic.

And I do have a big hunka man but he works nights so that helps me out not at all, so that’s not always the solution. ;-)

zappos.com. Search the “dress comfort” section. Lots of brands are specializing in cute but also comfy these days.

Speaking of work and sore feet, my husband is a podiatrist and he calls what you’re currently wearing “job security.” (And I agree: foot rubs for baked goods is absolutely a fair trade! ;)

  • Hi! You’ve been blogrolled at Singletude: A Positive Blog for Singles.

Very happy to hear that the worst part of your new job is ill-fitting shoes! I’m feeling the pain of underemployment myself at the moment and can empathize with the seemingly endless interviews and near misses. Good for you that you found a good fit! Now if only the shoes could fit, too, huh? :)

  • Big congratulations on getting your new job!
