Today is the first day I’ve been vertical since New Year’s Eve. I’m celebrating with chicken broth and G2. I know. I’m a wild woman.
I’m not going to whine about how really awful the flu is because, duh. If you’ve had it, you know how bad it is. And if you haven’t had it, you know it’s bad enough you don’t want it. But let’s, just for a second, talk about the flu test. That thing really hurts. I don’t know if the doctor who saw me was under-practiced or just lacked finesse, but when she said she was going to swab my nostrils with that long cotton swab, I didn’t understand that her end goal was to grab a sample of my BRAIN. First I said the eff word and then I cried. I couldn’t not cry.
Coughing up fifty bucks for Tamiflu hurt less than the flu test – and you KNOW how I feel about unbudgeted spending.
Being vertical today has meant working at the kitchen counter, from which vantage point I’ve watched the animals interrupt their napping only to chase the sunny spot on the carpet. I actually caught them napping together – and snapped a photo as proof. I’ve long believed that our respective pets, who all but ignore each other in our presence, socialize a whole lot more when we’re not around. Which, it turns out, they do. They spoon. And yes, those are Hal’s paws resting ever-so-gently on the back of his sixty pound little spoon.
Such an adorable picture. So sorry you have been feeling like crap.
Along the lines of a budget, how did you create your’s? I was hoping to search w/in the site, but came up empty. I need to become more strict with my finances and if you have a suggestion w/out me having to shell out $$ for a financial planner, I’d appreciate it.
Feel better soon!
Aww, that pic is wicked cute of the two of them…I often wonder if my roommate and my cat do this when I’m at work…hmmm. Hope you are feeling better!
Ah, so cute! Hope you feel much better soon. I had that flu a while back and I know how miserable it is!
oh my God! you poor poor thing! I hope you’ll be feeling better really soon… that’s a cute shot of the pets, looks like they’re adjusting just fine.
Been reading forever, never commented. The picture of your pup and kitten spooning is the best thing I have seen all day. It made my heart smile.
Feel better!!!
I’ve been reading your blog for quite some time and decided it was time to reveal myself! I absolutely love reading your posts – they crack me up. Your personality, and humor, really comes through! Thanks for keeping me entertained And feel better!
I got the flu for the first time. I spent Christmas and my 30th bday in bed because of it. Then just when things started looking up and I was on my way to recovery, my boyfriend dumped me. Happy New Year! lol.
Feel better. That pic is mega cute.
I’m glad you are feeling a little better and hope you are tip top very soon. AND – thanks for the adorbable picture! I cannot get enough of pet pics – especially inter-species friendships!
That was adorable! Thanks for sharing
Wow, sounds bad! I thought that the Tamilfu was like a magic wand that knocked the flu right out of you. How long did it take for you to start feeling better after the first dose? My nephews caught the flu this fall and in 12 hours after the Tamiflu, they were 100% better. After I heard that, I was feeling pretty relaxed about catching it, but maybe I was wrong…
Welcome back to the world of the living! Having had the flu once, I can feel your recent pain. I can remember lying on the couch, listening to inane talk radio because I couldn’t bring myself to read or even move my head to look at the TV. Verticality is a great step forward! May you continue to recover.
That photo gives me such hope! My dog and cat have been fighting since the day we brought the dog home eight months ago. I’d be thrilled if they just learned to ignore each other.
Hope you feel better soon!
Nice to know I wasn’t alone!
I had a sore throat hit me on Monday, December 28th and today is my first day back at work and life in general. Yea. It wasn’t pleasant and of course, it was more than just a flu. Yick.
Glad to be among the living though! Thanks for sharing the pic of your pets. Wonderful!
Happy New Year!
Hope you are feeling 100% recovered soon!
i totally know your pain on the flu test! i had it last february – first time i had the flu in a LONG time… the nurse reached at me with the long cotton squab and i opened my mouth. she laughed and told me it went up my nose. i think my eyes watered for ten minutes. swore i would never get sick again so i could avoid the nose swab! feel better soon!
I surely hope you get well soon, Fish!
Found out about your weblog’s link from i-village emails and I’m glad I never deleted those. You keep me entertained and I can relate to your ordeals with guys and credit card bills.
Keep it up and I wish you happiness in 2010!
Much love,
Stacey
That picture is SO CUTE!!!!!
I’m sorry you had the flu! Glad you are on the mend.
That picture is the bees knees…
Here’s to many more sunny spots on the floor
too damn cute. Pets and their sun love – aw!
I’m confused. They do a flu test by swabbing up your nose? Why? That sounds awful. I got the flu two years ago- around the same time the heat wasn’t working well in my apt- so I just thought my chills were the heat being off and I had a cold..turned out I had a 104 temperature and ended up in the hospital room, IV and all. It was awful and I don’t remember a lot of it, but I’m pretty sure I’d remember a huge cue-tip going up my nose.
Hope you’re feeling better. I wouldn’t wish the flu on my worst enemy!
Also- not sure if you’re interested at all, but it seems like you have a very poor immune system (I know bc I used to have one). I started doing this “cleanse” once a year that, in short, “restores” your body and boosts your immune system. It has done wonders for me- so much more than any dr or medicine ever did.
Let me know if you’re interested in it.
