I cried at work yesterday. In front of people. If there are more humiliating experiences to be had, I’m not aware of them (and I’ve been stripped naked in the ER after throwing up on myself, so I’ve experienced some humiliation). Part of my breakdown came from being tired for sure (still not sleeping, called the doc, they’re to busy to see me, need a new doctor, the end). Part of it is that two people should be doing my job and since I’m just one person – even a smart, hard working person - I never get it all the way right. That’s such an ugly feeling.
Yesterday had some lovely bright spots, though! Real, in the mailbox mail (my name written all pretty on a purple envelope) and also ta da! the fabric sample that arrived from London turned out to be perfect. Now we’re crossing all our fingers and toes that they have enough of it. And then revising the budget because they are not kidding about that ‘sound as a pound’ bit. Boy do we take it in the kidneys with that currency conversion! Worth it, though.
Also, we have plane tickets for the honeymoon. Eeee! And since the Boy’s father does a lot of traveling for work, we potentially have business class upgrades. Potentially, because the airline will let you know 24 hours before if the upgrades are available. Therefore, I’m potentially psyched not to sit in coach for that long flight!
Today is the inspection on the house. I’m choosing to believe it will go really, really well because oh, hey, did I tell you the Dork Lord had to have an emergency root canal on Monday morning? Surprise! Here’s your Novocaine; that’ll be $500. Yeeeeah. I’m definitely looking for the yin to that yang.
Come on Universe! Give Heather a break… I’ll vouch for her, she’s a good person! Bring on the happy times…
Keep your chin up. There have been so many times where things feel like they will come apart at the seams and then miraculously mend itself. Keep being the great person you are and believe that it will work out!
Life is just like a roller coaster.
Just hang on tight. Stay focused.
You’re gonna be fine. Really.
I know
This made me laugh I just today opened a birthday card (real in the mail kind) and it said Life is like a rollercoaster – try an eat a light lunch
I’m going to go with a new saying I’m making up right now “crazy engagement’s make awesome marriages”.
We also had a ton of random crappy stuff happen right before our wedding (including oral surgery and the surprise death of our heat pump,cha-ching), but we got though it and have been having a pretty freaking awesome marriage for the past 2 1/2 years.
So I predict that all this random drama & surprise expenses end before your wedding day and then it’s nothing but smooth sailing. =)
Oh, I like the way you think, lady. Here’s to hoping your predictions come true!
Oh yes, like the saying a bad dress rehersal makes a great opening night.
Ooh…tell the airlines that you are honeymooners and you’ll be more likely to get that upgrade! Good luck!
Bad luck comes in 3s right? So you’ve had the funeral, the break-in, and the root canal. I say the bad luck is over and you’re on the upswing
You have paid for some house-luck with all this other not-awesome-luck. The inspection will be great. Sending positive vibes in the Texas direction.
Maybe you should go buy a lottery ticket. Since you’ve had all this bad luck..maybe some good luck will come your way.
Oh girl, I hear you on the crying at work thing. I did it in a meeting once and I agree, it is possibly the most mortifying thing I’ve ever done. Hang in there!
It will all work out soon! There’s a light at the end of the tunnel, just keep your chin up!
We’ve done the last minute upgrade thing. Don’t wait until 23 hours before that flight. Call 24 hours exactly! We did and got the last 2 business class seats. It also gets you into the business class lounge. (I ate my weight in asparagus I think) My husband got to sit next to the pilot that would be flying the 2nd half of the flight. Laying flat made it totally worth it. We didn’t upgrade on the way back, just the way there. On the way back was during the Swine Flu uproar so no one was coming to the states anyway. We could have each had a row to ourselves if we wanted.
Good luck with the inspection! Buying a house – so fabulous!!! (in a scary, wonderful kind of way)
Good luck! I’ve experienced that feeling at work. It’s really tough to cope with sometimes, especially if you’re a perfectionist (as I am).
Regarding Upgrades – make sure you sign up for them right away if you find out they’re available. You can’t book them day of flight for International Flights, usually.
I feel for you. I cried twice (yes, as in more than once) at work a few weeks ago. It was so not pretty and I felt like I was five. Since then good things have happened so I hope your cry brings you the kind of luck mine brought me – even if I did have to do it twice.
