got valium?

I came into work this morning and opened an email from my brother which very calmly announced that my father is in a psych ward in some VA hospital out west.

It was 8:00 so I gathered up my things. I took a detour at the ladies’ room, puked my guts out, got a drink of water and went to my Monday morning meeting.

To think, just yesterday I deleted all my spam email about valium. Silly me.

  • My thoughts are with you, Fish.

I actually swiped a few v recently. Care for tea, sypmathy and Valium & “V”? I’m off tom. Call in sick :)

    *that’s a hella “v”‘s for one comment.

  • I am so sorry to hear about your dad.

Family stuff is hard enough to deal with whilst trying to have your own life, career, etc.

At times like this, I lose myself in music therapy…one of my current faves below:

    Artist: Jem Lyrics

    Song: Just a Ride Lyrics

    Life is ever so strange

    It’s good for a change

You think you worked it out

    Bang, right outta the blue

    Something happens to you

    To throw you off course

    But then you

    Break down

    Yeah, you break down

    Don’t you break down

    Listen to me

    Because

    CHORUS:

    It’s just a ride

    It’s just a ride

No need to run, no need to hide

It’ll take you round and round

Sometimes you’re up sometimes you’re down

    It’s just a ride

    It’s just a ride

Don’t be scared, don’t hide your eyes

It may feel so real inside

    But don’t forget it’s just a ride

    Truth, you don’t wanna hear

It’s too much to take (too much to take)

    Don’t have to feel

    Out of control

So we make our plans (make our plans)

Ten times a day (ten times a day)

    And when they don’t go

    Our way we

    Break down

    Yeah, we break down

    Don’t you break down

    Listen to me

    Because

    CHORUS:

    It’s just a ride

    It’s just a ride

No need to run, no need to hide

It’ll take you round and round

Sometimes you’re up sometimes you’re down

    It’s just a ride

    It’s just a ride

Don’t be scared, don’t hide your eyes

It may feel so real inside

    But don’t forget it’s just a ride

    Slowly

    Oh so very slowly

    Except that

    There’s no getting off

    So live it

    Just gotta go with it

‘Cause this rides, never gonna stop

    Break down

    Yeah you break down

    No need to break down

    No need at all

    Because

    CHORUS:

    It’s just a ride

    It’s just a ride

No need to run, no need to hide

It’ll take you round and round

Sometimes you’re up sometimes you’re down

    It’s just a ride

    It’s just a ride

Don’t be scared, now dry your eyes

It may feel so real inside

But don’t forget enjoy the ride

    It’s just a ride

    It’s just a ride

No need to run, no need to hide

It’ll take you round and round

Sometimes you’re up, sometimes you’re down

    It’s just a ride, it’s just a ride

Don’t be scared, now dry your eyes

It may feel so real inside

But don’t forget enjoy the ride

  • i hate it when people EMAIL you stuff like that.

    hang in there.

  • NEIN

That’s a harsh way to find out, but at least he’s getting help. He’ll be better for it in the long run.

  • Fish, hang in there… Good luck.

  • Oofa. Now that’s a hell of a way to start a Monday. My prayers are with your family. Sounds like maybe Ari’s got the right kinda therapy in mind… I tend to favor whiskey, a bottle of Jamesons might do you good, or for a non-inebriated tactic – try dancing and singing at the top of your lungs to 80s music with reckless abandon. Works for me.

  • I don’t know what would’ve been better – a phone call, an email, a voice message?

Hang in there. He’s somewhere safe, where there are people who can help him.

    {{{Hugs}}}

    Hope the meeting went quickly.

  • Fish,

Very sorry to hear about your Dad. I just went through some rough times with my Mom and can sympathize with you. I hope things turn out for the best.

  • Holy Cow! Sorry to hear this. Hang in there. :)

  • there’s never a good way to hear things like that. *hugs* good luck. i know how you feel.

  • Wow, I hope everything turns out well for you and for your family. I’m thinking of you.

Moving to New York was not a huge mistake, and your dad will be okay. Life’s adjustments hit some of us a bit harder than others, and it is nothing to be ashamed of or worry ourselves overmuch. I know it’s different when it’s you or your family, trust me, I know. But it’ll be okay.

  • Fish,

keep your chin up, it’ll all get better.

  • Sending only good thoughts and well wishes your way.

  • Thinking of you, sweetie.

  • I ditto Wicked’s sentiments. Hang in there.

  • More hugs your way. Take care, Fish.
