indie rock boy says

H: I'm an aspiring potato.
IRB: It's okay. I'm Irish; I like potatoes. I think you're more of a yam, though.
H: Yam, huh? Does that mean I'm a sweet potato?
IRB: Ah yes - there's that dual natured cleverness again.
H: Double entendres. We have the French to thank those. Oh, and Dijon mustard.
IRB: Free for lunch? Wanna get something?

Bingo!

Being silly as can be, have bet with officemate concerning Indie Rock Boy. Was told that if no date offer is made within 30 days, yours truly owes her lunch. While am determined not to have to pay for lunch, have made no efforts toward the goal, other than flaunting natural charms. Have not even employed plunging necklines. Have even stopped wearing make-up. (Mascara and lip balm do not count) If am going to attract new bike, am going to do so without any pretense.

What you see is what you get... and damn it, you'd better like it.

Go for it!

So what's for lunch, Fish and chips?

Posted by: Texas T-bone at April 15, 2003 09:42 AM

I'd vote for lobster and steak. He is paying, right?

Posted by: Frankenstein at April 15, 2003 09:46 AM

Is this today? We want midday reports!

Posted by: Paul Gutman at April 15, 2003 09:57 AM

Somebody get CNN on the horn! We need some minute-to-minute coverage here!

Posted by: Michael at April 15, 2003 10:07 AM

Presenting yourself "as is" isn't going to get you what you want. Look at your track record!

Posted by: The Lurker at April 15, 2003 10:24 AM

sweetie, im sorry, this is bugging me. no offense. "indie" is for indie-rock. "indy" is a car race or one of harrison ford's best characters.

Posted by: indie rock guy at April 15, 2003 10:31 AM

ooh, he's totally right.

wait-- lunch doesn't count as a date does it? I was always told (and forgive the offensive phrase) that a day date is a gay date-- or a date that wasn't going to go anywhere because there's minimal potential for a hook up. If I was on the other end of the bet the date would have to be at night.

But that's just me.

regardless, good luck with the indie rock boy. i'm sure you'll have fun no matter what happens. and it's been my experience (as an indie rock boy) that we dig the natural look. make-up is for special occasions.

Posted by: mark at April 15, 2003 10:35 AM

Why the fuck do you care how I spell something!?!

This drives me absolutely nuts. I don't come edit your web site. I don't tell you that you use appositive phrases incorrectly. I don't tell you that it drives me up a fucking wall the way you misuse 'you're.' So stop with the nit picking already!

Posted by: Fish at April 15, 2003 10:47 AM

Maybe he's from Indiana and collects rocks? Then the spelling would be correct.

Posted by: Me at April 15, 2003 10:59 AM

hmmm...a little bit of "indignance" over the correction of "indy"...

Posted by: me1 at April 15, 2003 11:10 AM

Clearly.
I'm just astounded at the nerve people have. It's like going over to someone's house, examining the wall paint and saying, "uh, dude, you missed a spot." Why?!

I think it's time to disable the comments.

Posted by: Fish at April 15, 2003 11:16 AM

the lunch date can be a testing the waters pre-dating date. the fact that he took the initiative (and a flattering approach at that!) is a fantastic sign. your natural charms must be magnetic, fish! can't wait to hear how it went. don't care how you spell Indie, either, since it's your nickname for him. sheesh, people.

Posted by: sassylittlepunkin at April 15, 2003 11:16 AM

fish, do you have a tendancy to explode like that in real life or just on the blog? if it's (spelling that is) not a big deal, then why make a big deal out of it? anywaste, good luck on your date. be sure to mention "modest mouse", "pinback" or "optaginally yours".

Posted by: hubs at April 15, 2003 12:41 PM

It's funny to read how upset you get. It would be funnier if you explode like that in real life too.

Posted by: me1 at April 15, 2003 12:53 PM

I'd like to disagree with Lurker and say that being yourself definately is the best way to attract someone who will really like you for you, so way to go!

Posted by: dahl at April 15, 2003 12:53 PM

I'll second dahl's comment. Be yourself.

The war paint and masks are apparently for the people who have nothing better to do than edit grammar and aim senseless barbs.

Hope you keep the comments. It's mildy amusing sometimes despite the occasional InterNut, isn't it?

Posted by: Texas T-bone at April 15, 2003 01:06 PM

YAY lunch date!! Natural charms are all you need. Bon Apetite!

Posted by: Drowning Fish at April 15, 2003 01:18 PM

Don't kill the comments. They do more good than harm. At least that's been true for me.

Personally I have no problem with people correcting my blog, IF THEY DO IT PRIVATELY! A private email that helps me save face is cool, but public correction is for pansies with low self-esteem.

Posted by: Ric at April 15, 2003 01:26 PM

I don't have any sort of a temper. Anyone that knows me can attest to that.

Perhaps you misread my tone. I just don't get why you must spend the time to tell me I misspelled Darth VadEr or IndIE. Go find something to do!

Posted by: Fish at April 15, 2003 01:56 PM

"Have even stopped wearing make-up. (Mascara and lip balm do not count)."

Absolutely. And if you can attract without the pretenses, the higher the comfort level. I wish I had the guts.

Posted by: Sweet Jezebel at April 15, 2003 02:15 PM

but correcting "indignance" is ok? You are just embarrassed because YOU got called out. Much cooler move to laugh it off..
No need to respond to this comment with your typical "THIS IS MY WEBSITE, YOU WROTE TO ME"...I get it. It's just to easy...

Posted by: me1 at April 15, 2003 02:19 PM

Are you very lonely?

Posted by: Fish at April 15, 2003 02:33 PM

no, probably just have about as much free time at work as you do to be able to do this site. Are you a hypocrite?

Posted by: me1 at April 15, 2003 02:37 PM

Yes. I am.

Posted by: Fish at April 15, 2003 02:43 PM

Dang. Who cares how stuff gets spelled. As long as Fishie (ooh, sorry... is it Fishy?!) sticks around to entertain us all, she can invent a whole new hieroglyphic language for all I care.

Good luck on your bet, Fish!

Posted by: michybrit at April 15, 2003 03:04 PM

I want to muffle The Lurker quiet.

Presenting yourself "as is" is the ONLY way to go, unless what you are looking for is a cheap one-night hook-up. Sheesh.

Posted by: jennn at April 15, 2003 06:43 PM

Have fun on your date!

Fishquote: 'What you see is what out get.... and dammit, you'd better like it'

Dearest H, we already do like it. What? You meant IndyRock? Hmph, well, exkeyooooose me!

Posted by: Erin at April 16, 2003 02:21 AM

Was coaxed by co-workers to ask if a picture of IRB could be posted. So, "Could a picture of IRB be posted?"

Personally, believe imagination is more fun, but do what you will.

oh my goodness. by all means, take the Lurker's advice-- look at your track record... and be PROUD, girl! i mean, you are an articulate, insightful, entertaining, and completely non-bitter person. Others going through the fuck wit boy process haven't maintained nearly such a strong sense of self even a fraction as well. Presenting yourself "as is" is the ONLY way to figure out what you want OR get it. I'm equally astonished and appalled that someone would suggest otherwise...

Re: the correctors, advisors and snarky remarkers. I've been using the "ignore" approach, which seems to work well. Rejection without paying them the slightest attention. Some people mean well and are innocent. It's the intentionally mean people I loathe. A lunch date, btw, is not an inferior date at all. If things don't work out, it's over in an hour.

Posted by: Katherine at April 17, 2003 01:31 AM

WHAT HAPPENNED ON THE DATE??

It's been 5 days now, fess up, we are waiting!

:)

Posted by: goonie at April 18, 2003 11:39 AM

Hope all is well fish, miss your morning blog.

Posted by: Drowning Fish at April 18, 2003 11:43 AM

Miss ya' Fish. Hope all is well and you had fab date with IRB. If we don't hear from you soon, will be force to invoke the Amber Alert system.

If you've worn out this aquarium, hope you'll find a new one. Or enjoy life outside the Fish Bowl. Happy trails!
