that darn cat

Reluctant Kitten has demolished v. nice houseplant belonging to roommate.

Came home from work the other day to see toppled greenery and felt quite bad about it. Spent yesterday morning consulting coworkers with expertise in field of plant life so as to identify the deceased (brought in sample leaves and part of stem) so that might replace it. As of yet, remains unidentified, but hope to be plant shopping by week's end.

Lord knows that don't need yet another reason to aggravate roommate.

Am taking RK to v. expensive kitty doctor this afternoon for check-up, vaccinations and pre-farewell-to-her-womanhood consultation. Indeed. RK is getting fixed. Though, can't really see how "fixed" is the proper word for this sort of thing, as cannot see that she is broken in anyway. But will certainly be nice to bring end to mewling for 5 days every month. Hmm... wonder if can get same sort of consultation for self...

reading this today makes me think that a few years ago when i attempted to care for houseplants and thought i just didn't have a green thumb, that perhaps it was more that i had a black cat. she would gnaw the life out of anything green, pretty and potted!

Maybe your roomie needs to grow another type of "houseplant" to ease her mind, mellow out, put things in perspective. But you wouldn't want RK getting into that!

Our dogs became much more pleasant to have around post-surgery (one's male; one's female). Though heart-wrenching to watch them recover, I think it's the best for them.

I love the picture in my head of you yowling at the back door of a house for five days every month.

Once babysat adorable orange tabby Scottish fold. The kind that always look endearingly pissed due to genetically flattened ears. Supposedly neutered.

A few months later the purebred Persian across the street had a large litter of stripey orange young with mashed ears. Hell was paid.

In 1987, adopted Sociopathic Cat from relocating co-worker. SC hissed, snarled, lived inside the back of the sofa (she would literally climb up under the upholstery in the back and hang there by her claws) and came out to eat/drink/poop only when I was asleep.

Relocating co-worker advised SC had not been fixed, so we took her in, whereupon vet discovered not only uterus but also raging abdominal infection. Brought SC home and began administering postoperative medication by sliding arms under couch, squeezing jaws open w/one hand and squirting antibiotic down throat w/other while SC gripped thumb base w/claws and gnawed on thumbtip w/very sharp teeth.

In the middle of the fifth night thereafter, awoke to find SC asleep upon my significant other's hip, purring loudly. That's pretty much where she stayed until dying in her sleep in 1998, the morning after spending 3 hrs in my lap helping me watch Sunday Night Football on ESPN.

May you and postoperative RK enjoy such a long and fruitful relationship.
