This is v. important, y'all. Please vote.

mini skirt + knee high boots =

A) stylish
B) trampy

Maybe I've watched just one too many episodes of the Nanny but I came out of my room in a denim mini and tall brown boots feelin' pretty darn cute. But Roommate tells me I look like I'm "tryin' to get some."

Shoot. Guess that means tomorrow I'll be returning stuff.

Oh, wait! Now he's explaining! Let's listen, shall we?

"It's those long-ass legs of yours!"
"So, you mean, if I were short and stumpy, this would be okay?"
"Well, um, yeah."
"Nothing I can do about that."
"And you thought those legs were a gift!"
"Hmmm... no, but now I definitely won't. Here I thought I was MADE for the mini skirt."

Very A.

A winner of a look everytime. There's nothing sexier. And since when was looking like you're trying to get some a bad thing? With style like this you're sure to succeed!

(A) in Texas. Anywhere else, (B).

Wait, you're not looking to get some?

Stylishly trampy but never trampily stylish. By the way, I saw a herman cartoon once where the owner couldn't afford an alarm system or a dog, so compromised with a huge dog dish on the front step. Beside which sat a bone.

I'd say it depends on the boots and the skirt, the fabric, length and pattern. There are mini skirts and there are mini-mini skirts... Trust your instincts, girl, wear what YOU think is stylish and don't let other people, who are jealous of your looks, tell you what to wear.

Dude. I bought my first short skirt a few months back specifically for the purpose of wearing with knee high boots. Have planned to wear the combo on at least three occasions. Every single time, excitedly dressed, glanced in mirror, felt like a tramp, and immediately undressed. Couldn't do it.

Still holding onto the skirt though. One of these days, I will get up the guts. Or, you know, get really drunk BEFORE I get dressed. We'll see.

Hey Fish--I've got killer long-ass legs too (for my height, that is)! And having lived in the land of Knee-High-Boots-Are-Stylish-and-Practical-and-Not-Hooker-Boots (i.e. England) for the last 8 years, I've worked out a compromise to this one:

To look stylish and hip with knee-highs, team your sexiest pair with a pencil skirt that's just above the knee, a tailored shirt/fitting turtleneck and a kick-ass fitted leather/denim/corduroy jacket that's waist-length or just below the waist.

Hairstyle should be sleek and pulled back.

Works every time.

There is such a fine line. It can go either way depending on the accessories and the top. If you are going short on the bottom go conservative on top and do NOT do something like fishnets (they spell trampy).

i agree with some people that its all about the accessories. and if its a cute skirt, it can look very stylish, but if its kind of boring or just in general, not very noteworthy, then it just looks trampy.

as another member of the long legged family, i often have this problem as well, since way more of our leg is showing than for someone of shorter variety.

agree totally with previous comments...I've got a mini-skirt I wear with my boots - but only to some places....
You know what's right - go out and have a good time!

A with a hint of B.

as usual in fashion, i'd just have to see it. but i trust your judgement, fish, and i'd say probably A. maybe roommate has crush and doesn't want others lusting over you. ;)just kidding. i live with boy roommates too.

Hot. very hot. always.

I'm with Paul the Rockstar aka Frankenstein. Isn't the most stylish just brimming with a hint of the tramp?

...it always works for me! (depends entirely upon the attitude, though!)

I'm beating off just thinking about it.

I'm a little upset at having to be next to that last comment, but whatever.

I've got the same legs problem. Skirts that look tasteful on other girls look trampy on me...it just stinks. I always buy longer ones to look like I'm wearing something normal.

Posted by: Anne at November 19, 2003 12:49 PM

Don't be offended baby, its a compliment. Long legs get ol' Mr. Stiffens fired up.

Posted by: Dale at November 19, 2003 01:19 PM

wow, i can't believe so many people care. more a.

Posted by: hubs at November 19, 2003 01:21 PM

Mr. Stiffens.....that's killin' me Dale.

You can't possibly think about returning the mini. I just finished constructing my fantasy of you pouring me tea wearing nothing but a mini-skirt and boots.

Posted by: Wilk at November 19, 2003 01:40 PM

hmmmmmm..........I agree with glovefox.......it's all about the accessories. if you can go classy and stylish up top, then no worries.
but let me tell you a girl walking by "fuck me pumps" (that's what we call 'em up here) and a short skirt, ALWAYS turns my head, if she accessorizes with class, I'll just keep on lookin'.
i'd prefer not to think of it as trampy, but more of a "look what I've got, and ain't afraid to show it" look, vs to trampy.
guess it depends on what you are goin' for.

Posted by: bikefox at November 19, 2003 04:02 PM

stylish. Mini and THIGH high boots--trampy.

Posted by: annethesahm at November 19, 2003 04:27 PM

It depends on *where* you're wearing the outfit to, I tend to think. For a social occasion, almost definitely stylish. For work, I'd lean toward B. Then again, I work in an elementary school, so your mileage may vary widely...

Do you guys get the UK version of Glamour out there?

Well anyway the edition that has Beyonce as a covergirl on it, has a whole big article dedicated to the mini and wearing it with style. (ie. not Trampy)

Believe me as a cover-it-all-up, rather-then-bear-any-flesh type of girl, the article nearly had me grabbing the scissors to hack the bottom off all my skirts.

Posted by: sally at November 19, 2003 06:36 PM

what month of glamour was that?
