i worry

I feel dirty.

It's so very wrong, but contrary to all my proper intuitions and pre-dispositions on the matter, I actually liked the Ashlee Simpson album. I did. And it shames me.

Yes, Ashleeeeeee "Spell it with EEs" Simpson. I even started singing along which frightened me and forced me to close the web browser streaming her I'm Not Jessica, Angry Girl Rock into my living room.

What's next in this madness? A newly developed appreciation for Hello Kitty? Will I go out and buy one of those tiny little butt ruffle skirts? Who knows, I might even learn to text message.

I worry about me sometimes.

That's how I felt about Avril Lahoweveryouspellhername's music. I just felt too old to like her music. I haven't gone out and bought her cd or anything, but I don't switch stations when her music comes on. Don't tell anyone, ok? :)

so am i hip and cool because i still have hello kitty stuff from 10 years ago?

Posted by: dahl at July 20, 2004 12:29 PM

Hush with the anti-Avrilness! She is okay, she must be, for I love her.

I can't expose my tender ears to Ashlee, of the Very Angry Tribe of Siblings. It seems cruel and without redeeming value.

I've decided this whole being in my 30's and acting 15 again is due to the whole 80's revivial.

Posted by: Lana at July 20, 2004 12:33 PM

Sheesh, now you've got me all worried, too.

Yikes!

Posted by: ellephantom at July 20, 2004 12:50 PM

puh-lEEse NO butt ruffle skirt.

i don't dubt you could pull it off, buy those things are as bad as the leg warmer trend of the 80's!!

Posted by: bikefox at July 20, 2004 12:52 PM

thank you for reminding me that the smarter of the simpson girls' (at least what we see of them on tv) album comes out today... because everyday i linger a little too long with the dial set to the local top 40 station hoping to hear her 'pieces of me' song. this way i can play it 20 times in a row. which i probably will. sue me. ashlee's a good time... in her own way.

Simpsons:Music::Bush family:politics

(Dynasty)

(in this case, emphasis on the "nasty")

How is Benjamin ever supposed to breakout in an environment that champions these girls?

But I love Avril's "I'm With You." (I have yet to hear any Ashlee.)

Posted by: Michael R at July 20, 2004 01:27 PM

Michael, honey, methinks you have a crush on our friend Benjamin....

Posted by: Fish at July 20, 2004 01:32 PM

Posted by: Jonathan at July 20, 2004 01:54 PM

Oh, Fish, we all worry about you; we just try not to let it show. But a ruffled skirt? So you, I think! :)

Posted by: Michael at July 20, 2004 02:01 PM

Posted by: janna at July 20, 2004 02:20 PM

I will be meeting Ms. Ashlee Simpson tomorrow at my local FYE.

Posted by: IRB at July 20, 2004 03:03 PM

Is that the actual IRB from previous posts or just some imposter?

Posted by: Michael R at July 20, 2004 03:19 PM

Also - Fish: with the pythons and the shadow, how could I not?

Posted by: Michael R at July 20, 2004 03:21 PM

Ladies and Gents: The one and ONLY IRB. He's no imposter.

Posted by: Fish at July 20, 2004 03:27 PM

Posted by: akaellen at July 20, 2004 03:47 PM

Happy Birthday!

Posted by: finelyspungirl at July 20, 2004 04:23 PM

Fish, you are pretty cool.

Posted by: russ at July 21, 2004 11:40 AM

By the way, I had phone text with a woman once. Not what I expected ... :)

Posted by: Michael at July 21, 2004 11:51 AM

I'm glad someone else admitted this first. Then again, two of my favorite albums of all time belong to Debbie Gibson's "Out of the Blue" and The Party's self-titled debut.

Whatever. I gave up being hip a long time ago.

Posted by: Janet at July 21, 2004 02:40 PM

you mean someone other than ME remembers 'the party?'

Posted by: shivery at July 21, 2004 04:52 PM

I remember The Party! I know I bought at least two of their CASSETTES. Possibly three. Let's see ... Chase, Damon, DeeDee, Tiffany and ... the black guy. Damn. I was close to remembering all of them. Hahaha! Thanks for the smile. I'd almost forgotten.

Posted by: Big City Gal Pal at July 21, 2004 05:20 PM

And to think I was feeling bad about listening to the entire William Hung album hte other day and secretly enjoying it. Thanks for letting me come out.

Posted by: Smitty at July 21, 2004 06:31 PM

ouch! i own a butt-ruffle skirt. and i text people all the time, on my hello-kitty-adorned cell phone... what exactly is your point?

(for the record, i'm 24. and my butt-ruffle skirt is cute.)

Posted by: anonymous at July 22, 2004 09:20 AM

Albert...the other guy from the party is Albert. Not that I would remember or anything. And I really like Ashlee Simpson's music also. I think I'm reverting back to being 15 or something.

Posted by: Mandy at July 22, 2004 10:54 AM

Mandy! Yes! Albert! Thanks! hahahah

Posted by: Big City Gal Pal at July 22, 2004 11:59 AM

Hey, it's a party FOR The Party! I smell a reunion tour...

Posted by: Janet at July 22, 2004 03:33 PM

I wonder if any of them actually sing or anything anymore. Suddenly I feel the urge to do an internet search!

Posted by: Mandy at July 22, 2004 04:07 PM

I think I saw Damon in a Saturn car commercial. One that had something to do with donuts.

Posted by: Big City Gal Pal at July 22, 2004 04:31 PM

Oh! And I saw DeeDee in a production of Miss Saigon here in NYC!

Posted by: Big City Gal Pal at July 22, 2004 05:09 PM

Yes, Deedee was in Miss Saigon. I think she might have been on ATWT at one point too. Damon was the "most successful" there for awhile. Had a few different commercials airing simultaneously. Chase (my favorite) had started his own band, Buzzkill.

Right. I think I should just shut up now.

Posted by: Janet at July 23, 2004 09:59 AM

Hee. Chase was my favorite too. ;)
