I own one of those alarm clocks that just knows what time it is. Something to do with magical signals from space or some such. And because of those magical space signals, at 2AM on Sunday, bloop! the time fell back automatically, without a bit of assistance from me. So low maintenance, my little alarm clock! Only, apparently, it decided that once wasn’t enough and bloop! the time fell back AGAIN lat night while I was sleeping. I struggled from sleep at 5AM to head out to boot camp, only to learn from the microwave that it was 6AM and camp was going on without me.

Are you sure, Microwave?

The microwave referred me to the DVR box for back up and then to the cell phone, who has a long and storied history of truth-telling. It was indeed 6AM.

Oh, technology, you rogue. Between the Dork Lord and me, it took a good twenty minutes of jabbing at that thing to figure out how to manually reset it and even now, I’m not so sure it won’t get crazy ideas about how to pass the time when it’s bored again at 2AM. God, I’m glad I didn’t end up purchasing a Clocky. By now, that thing would have figured out how to roll right off the night stand, yank my car keys and go joyriding. And something tells me it would not have any respect for speed bumps.

  • How Funny! My alarm clock did the same thing, but what doesn’t make sense with mine, is that it moved forward an hour each of the last three nights. So today thinking I was getting up at 5:30 am to go to the gym, it was indeed 4:30. Thankfully I figured it out before I’d packed up to leave. As it was, I got back into bed and drifted off for another hour.

You make me laugh out loud on a daily basis. When I am having a craptastic day, I know I can turn to your blog to make me crack up! I hope that one day my Dork Lord will come! ;) Goodness knows I have founds lots of idiots..You give me hope that there is a good one out there!!..Keep up the great writing!

    Thanks!!

  • Probably what happened was that your little clock decided you deserved a day of rest, along with the rest of us who took advantage of that extra hour to get some more sleep :) I hope you and the Dork Lord “took advantage”? Ahem ;)

  • Ha ha o dear! Well it can happen to the best of us, that’s for sure! I messed up also but not through the fault of my clock sadly, totally forgot the hours were going back a couple of weeks!

My “smart” clock set itself back the weekend before the official time change…so I had to reset it on the wrong weekend and then fix it on the correct weekend.

I also find it odd that my smart clock, smart cell phone and smart cable box all have the different times…who’s the smartest??

I feel your pain. My cell phone was smart enough to reset itself thanks to that very same type of technology. However, it was not smart enough to know that if I have the alarm on it set for 5am, it should STILL be set for 5am after the time change.

Yeah, wasn’t happy to wake up at 4 this morning by the mini-earthquake happening on my nightstand. That’s when I discovered that it bumped my alarms back an hour as well.

Guess I should have been smart enough to turn it off before I went to bed….

Having never heard of Clocky, I can only say that it’s a good thing that you were able to figure out that your genius clock was … not such a genius. You probably needed the sleep, too.

Having now found out about Clocky, though, I’m thinking that it will make a great torture device – oooo. Sorry! Christmas Present! – for a person or two on my Christmas list this year!! (Preferably for people who do not have pets, though…. That might get ugly.)

I too had issues with the clocks and time in general as I’ve just returned from a month on the east coast. I’m still feeling the affects too!

I’m all caught with ya, Fish and I just wanted to offer my congratulations to you again, Auntie on the birth of your beautiful neice! Gorgeous!

And thanks for the updated photo of Owen! Too cute!! :)

You prefer it continuously blinks 12:00a – one monkey don’t stop no show..an inanimate one at that. Whoops, my bad, just saw clocky by Honda.

I also have a ‘smart clock’ but I bought it a few years ago before they decided to move Daylight Savings Time. So, 2x a year on the OLD Daylight Savings Time dates, my clock changes. ARG! I want to just go and buy a new alarm clock, but money’s tight and there’s really nothing wrong with mine — except that it effs with me twice a year!

haha… i got mixed up a “Fell Forward” instead of “Falling Back”

i had just left for work, around 2:15PM, when my husband called me a told me i did the time wrong.. it was really 12:15PM!!

at least i wasn’t gonna be late!

You think you have problems. In my office I have a backwards clock. Do you know what kind of thought it takes to set a backwards clock forwards or backwards? Yeah, yeah, I know, I brought it upon muself . . .

Maybe you should plot a career where you move to a place that doesn’t change time? ;)
