After Friday, it was clear that I needed to take a bit of a break. You know, slow down. Get in touch with my less… psychotic side.
So I did. Friday night I got in some quality girl time with Sarah (and our sweet little friend, Frozen Mojito), then retreated to my couch where I spent the whole of Saturday with a down comforter and six hours of Gilmore Girls. And aside from the grisly discovery, it was lovely. I ordered in comfort foods and napped with Sir Hal. I read People Magazine and pretended to care about emaciated celebrities. I took two showers and a bath and sipped on a glass of red wine.
Now this is what I call relaxin’!
And you know what all that relaxin’ got me? A nasty ass head cold! I’ve spent my entire day bleary-eyed, making out with a box of Puff’s Plus (it’s the potion that really excites me) and resisting the temptation to wipe my nose on the sleeve of my sweatshirt a la a seven year old boy.
And punctuating all my sentences with sniff!
I know, it’s going around. Everyone’s getting it. I take some measure of comfort in the fact that a cold virus only lives about a week, so this is all just a temporary hell. And not to mention, that what with it going around like it is, people I don’t like very much will get it, too. And if there’s one thing I do love sharing with the miserable sumbitches in my life, it’s suffering.
Especially that unsightly, painful red ring of fire the beast leaves around the nostrils. I wish that one everyone I hate.
Seriously, besides the head cold, that is a fabulous way to spend a weekend. i intend to do something similar this weekend, and it might just spill into monday. as of monday i’m jobless(contract ends). i thought about doing the mad job hunt (like i have for the past two months)but then i thought better of it and decided monday is all mine. how much you wanna bet i get sick too?
once you stop for a second it catches up with you. no matter what coast you’re on.

Everyone over here in London is getting either a cold like you or the stomach bug. I’ve been lucky (knock on wood)…but I can comiserate with wanting to pass such things on to those we hate…I still wish a cold on one of my exes back in DC…a lifelong one with lots of snot!

I’m just getting over what I think may have been the flu, fever, aches and pains, sneezing, runny nose, sore throat, etc. Been on the couch since Thursday. Glad it’s over but bad part is that it’s time to go back to work! Wish I had thought about giving this to someone that I dislike!

Potion? Are these some new P-Funk Kleenex that haven’t made it to the midwest yet? I myself am using the anti-viral/anti-bacteria brand of Puffs. So far, I haven’t heard any virus scream as I deposited them to the Kleenex, however it doesn’t stop me from screaming, “THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!” to every tissue before I blow my nose.

yup, we got it up here in Nebraska too….and I work in a hospital, so it just gets passed around and around and around and…well, you get the idea. My favorite is when I get called in the ER to interpret in the middle of the night for a patient with a cold….and after my first couple of “sniff”-punctuated sentences, the patient says to me, “Wow, you sound worse than I do.” Umm…yeah, and my friends think it’s exciting that I get to hang out a lot in the ER.
oh man..tell me about it. i woke up this morning with a sore throat and a headache. i hope it’s nothing bad..feel better!

Totally agree that colds (especially ones involving sinus headaches) should be something one could willfully visit upon undesirables. Which is why neither you or me will ever have those powers bestowed upon us. Ah, but it is good to dream.

Aaahhh, the beastly red nose ring. Yes you are right to wish that on all your enemies. Evil? No. I call it justice.
I think its the time of year, change of seasons and all that. Touch wood I haven’t caught it yet, but a few of my colleagues have been so bad they’ve taken time off!
I’d recommend Elizabeth Arden 8hr cream for the red nose ring. It smells like crap, but as you can’t smell anything at the moment anyway it should help ease it a bit.

My temporary cold, has lasted for 6 weeks now… And have sent me to the doctor 5 times! And my body hurts like hell..

I’m so sorry! And as one who gets at least one sinus infection a year, here are some things that help me: Fuzzy Navels, really strong. Might not cure it, but the schnapps helps the throat and you get your vitamin C. Plus, you probably won’t care about the cold after awhile! Also, score some pure shea butter for the nose. It will burn less than some creams and it’s very rich. I also like Nivea for extra dry skin for in the purse. You can get a little pill looking case that slips nicely in the smallest of purses. Nyquil, too, is a gift from God.
Here it’s awful stomach flu going around, I’ve become a compulsive hand washer.

AHHH that sounds like heaven! (the weekend, not the cold) I haven’t had a day like that since 2002 when my son was born. SO in need of a vacay!
I hope you feel better soon. There is this bath wash for babies (Johnson & Johnson) that has vapors to sooth them when they are sick. This stuff is friggin AWESOME! Get some and put it in your hot bath water and it will clear ya up.
Considering I spent last three weekends either packing, moving, unpacking, or painting your weekend sounds like heaven.

Being sick Sucks! I’m feeling one comiong on now, and i’m mainlining vitamin c in the hopes of deterring it. It’s me or this cold, and one of us is going to have to go!

Be glad you don’t work at the school anymore. When I worked at an elementary school I had a little boy (about 7 years old) wipe his nose on MY sleeve! Talk about gross!
You really do need a bicycle. Maybe if you had one it would provide you with better writing material. You’re very good at what you do, you just need other things to focus on other than YOURSELF.

I had that cold too – and indeed spent most of my weekend under my comforter as well…can’t say I didn’t wish I was out and about but on the other hand I’ve had time to process the lately-ensuing chaos in my life LOL!
