Sometime last week, I thought it would be a good idea to take on another freelance project. Ooh, work! I know. But the proceeds would cover the rest of my Costa Rica vacation, and so when December came, I’d be free to zip! down the mountains under the lush rainforest canopy without giving a single thought to evil things like interest rates or credit card debt.
Come 1:30 last night, though, I couldn’t have given a rat’s ass about any of those things. I just wanted to go to sleep.
Between the new project, the two iVillage articles I’d had in the cooker, my real job and this blog – which seriously, has been sadly lacking in story content for days now – I’m stretched just a leeeetle bit thin. I’ve found myself planning tasks and errands and even phone calls to family down to the half hour just so I can get them all done before… oh yeah, before I leave for my high school reunion on Thursday.
Which brings me to YOU, husband of Marcy.
You who, as rumor has it, told the high school reunioners that I had a blog. I don’t know who you are, or the lovely Marcy, for that matter, but you’re so grounded. Now how am I supposed to share amusing anecdotes about them when I get home? Or rant about the mean girl who wrote that heinous note our senior year, and then contacted me all friendly-like on myspace and I wanted to crawl through the internet and choke the living shit out of her? Huh? And what if I get drunk and busy with some dude from the Class of ’96 in the bathroom of the Old Cottonmill? There’s no way I can write about it now! There. You see. You’ve gone and ruined it for everyone!
Oh, who am I kidding? I have no shame. Stories, reunion and otherwise, forthcoming…

You’re so brave, Fish! I totally chickened when it was my chance to write about having to go back to stupid alumni weekend at college…
Anyway, can’t wait to hear the stories! Good luck
Yay for stories! Woohoo!
Can’t wait to read about it!
Woo hoo! I will live vicariously, since I didn’t even go to my reunion. Looking forward to reading about it.
I went to (and actually put together) my 10th high school reunion. It was interesting. We had all finally grown up enough to all get along. Even those girls who had treated me like poo. We had a blast all hanging out and getting toasty. But no one’s put anything together since and next year is our 20th (gasp) reunion. Wonder if I’ll go…
Write the stories…
skip the reunion…
Go…have fun…laugh…hug…and then write about it…it’s your blog…if they don’t like it…well they don’t have to read it…though if they are “grown” then they would know that you can write about whatever or whomever you please…hope you have fun…
Just don’t scare me too much. My 10-year is about a week after yours.
I went to my reunion 2 weeks ago.
I LOATHED high school too. I felt like the biggest glutton for punishment because I was going- then was surprised.
It turned out to be a blast! The people that showed up were throwing hugs and trading digits and had basically put all of the immature high school bull**** behind them. And so many that were total slackers are now engineers and lawyers. I was so happy to see so many movers and shakers.
Only one chick was bitchy and I don’t know what her problem was.
But my point is- go into it with an open mind and a smile. Enjoy yourself… and if it sucks, just take your party elsewhere!
Oh H, We shall have a blast this week. You can just “change” the names to protect the identity of “interesting” people. Write away! They can always have their own story of how they became “famous” on your blog. Can’t wait to drink it up. I can help you beat up the mean people…it seems that I was supposed to be tough in highschool.
I went to my 10yr. I had nothing to say to them then, & nothing to say to them now. It was like some awkward Speed Dating event. “So where do you live, what do you do, oh that’s nice … ok see you later.”
holy reader demographic – i just had my 10-yr this past wknd, too! Mine was exactly like Scarlett’s – a wonderful night. Hope yours is the same, Fish!
If there at a possible moment would have been a reunion for my former classmates and other scum I was forced to stick with for some wasted years, if there by accident would have been a lion which by accident escaped from an by accident passing circus.
If the thing of course by accident would walk into the building and chase this bunch into the curtains and gnaw up some others, I would feel sorry for myself if I missed it.
If you’d like, I’ll meet you wherever it is, drunk toating a flask and posing as your common-law husband. I do syphillus-crazed hillbilly like Marlon Brando does Vito Corleone.
I didn’t go to my 10-year reunion, but I can’t wait to hear about yours!
I saw something nasty behind the Old Sawmill!!!
Can’t wait for the details! Have fun!
Can’t wait for the details! Have fun!
My 10-year reunion was a great chance to get to know people as adults. Most turned into absolutely amazing, fascinating people. I pity people who skip reunions because they are still bitter about the past. High school was hard for everyone. Grow up and deal already! Can’t wait for my 20th next year. Have a great time, Fish!
AHHHHH reunion time!!! I am also a clas of ’96er. We had our reunion in August and only 40 of the 250 class mates I graduated attended. Hope you have a good time.
Can’t wait to hear the stories. I hated high school and the 10 year reunion was still awkward. The 20 was a BLAST. of course, I was single again at the 20 and there was this cute guy…. By the 20, most people had grown up and were fascinating individuals, friendly and charming. The 25 sucked again. By that point, they were ‘nostalgic’ for the old days and kept replaying videos and photos from their glory days of athletics. It alienated all of us who hadn’t yet found our place in the world way back in 1981.
Whether it’s a positive or not-so-positive experience for you, I know you will write some awesome blogs about it.
Heather!
You brightened my Tuesday getting back to work after a mini vaca this weekend! Even if you think you’ve been lacking in story content- your posts never fail to entertain the hell out of me!
Sorry to hear about your sucky experience with Fresh Direct?! Is that like a Peapod? I’ve often thought of using them but feared something similar would happen!
I’ve missed your blog while I was gone! It’s good to be back- if not so much for the rain and coldness, for your amusing antics! Thanks:)
Have fun!
Good luck!
Can’t wait to read. I’ve been debating going to my 10 year since, well, since graduation really. I hope it’s encouraging!
It was a certain Mrs. Floyd who told me you had a blog, though you probably don’t remember who I am.
Try me!
Yeah, you were two grades ahead of me, I think, but first name is Meredith and I was on the newspaper and did tons of nerdy UIL stuff….
I just had my 10 year reunion too! Did you go to high school in Provo too, or just go to college there?
You silly. I remember you and your curly blonde hair!
my 10th was 3 years ago and it was fun. i was a total freakazoid in high school (shaved head and other weirdness). i showed up to my reunion pregnant with my 3rd kid and my nice looking man in tow. Not to mention my nice HAIR, which i didn’t have when i graduated. ok, i’m a religious jew and i wear a wig – but STILL!
I just love reunions!
Well, I wasn’t popular back in highschool or any other schools I used to attend. Or, maybe that’s main reason. I’d like others to see that I’ve changed a lot.
My suggestion is: JUST TELL THE STORIES
Glad that my blog might not cause any problem ;D
HS Reunions! Eeek! I did more than go to mine last year … I planned it! Oy! Go, have fun. Write stories, don’t take any of it very seriously.
one more thing…at my reunion, one of the most popular guys from HS had thinning hair, and one of the most gorgeous girls was overweight. this secretly pleased me.
i had so many friends in different grades that i went to three 10yr and then much later to two 20yr reunions. the 10′s were fun. most people were starting their lives either alone or with a signicant other. the 20′s were more interesting…
hello dear how are you hope all is will pls i will like you to contact me with my mail ok mike_gy01@yahoo.com
