actual conversation while watching an oakland raiders game

Me: I wonder what happens to her after she stops being young and pretty. I mean, for a cheerleader, she’s probably already pushing the age thing. What does she do next?

Him: Duh. The same thing they all do. (In falsetto mock Miss USA voice) “I want to major in communications! Yay!”

Me: Hey!

Him: What?

Me: That’s what I majored in.

Him: But… but you’re good at it. It’s different.

Me:  Mmm hmm.

As a fellow Comm major, I feel that stab too. Is he good at putting his foot in his mouth?

Ex-cheerleaders go on to be cheerleader coaches, it’s true. My alma matter (the high school one) had a drill team coach who was an ex Dallas Cowboy cheerleader. Apparently it’s common. Stick with what you know, right?

$10 someone will post and be crazy offended by you writing that. “I was a cheerleader and now I’m a neurosurgeon. See?” I can’t wait for it.

    Oops.

Can’t say I haven’t made the same stupid foot in mouth mistake before.

I may or may not have said ‘those who can’t, teach’ ….. to a teacher…

I wasn’t thinking and didn’t think it applied in his case. I couldn’t talk my way out of that.

  • Remember that whole part time job thing? Yeah. I gotta get one too.

Journalism major over here! Woot Woot!

I majored in psychology, which people say is an easy major, so I’m not at all saying anything about the difficulty of the curiculum. BUT, have you noticed how true it is that most of the Miss USA women major in Communications?

  • Okay, pardon my ignorance but what do you learn with a communications major? I did environmental science so that was biology, chemistry, physics, calculus blah blah. No languages, no econ, no psych, no nothing. Splain it to me please?

I’m just jealous that you can HAVE a conversation with your fella during a raider game!

  • I majored in it too, and I’ve been harassed about it as well. Those other people just don’t understand… :)

Ok. Now I know why you call him the “dork” lord.

There was a girl (woman?) in my class at Harvard Law School who was a Patriots cheerleader. She’d also gone to a military academy prior to law school, and cheered there. No idea what she’s doing now, but I’m guessing it’s not coaching cheerleaders. I always wondered how the cheerleader thing would play out with potential employers …. She seemed really proud of it (she brought the calendar to class to show off one day), but most of the people I knew in the class (men and women) just thought it was bizarre.

It seems like most of the cheerleaders for the Jags are elementary school teachers. That’s just weird to me.

Here’s a tidbit I learned from doing a lot of work with the NFL: cheerleaders only get a small stipend per game (it depends on the team but it’s something like $75)- so they all have to have other jobs. I just shot with some Bengal cheerleaders last week (they call themselves the Ben-gals) and the head cheerleader was getting her PHD in biology in order to study pediatric cancer. But she also had fake boobs- weird.

  • My Dork Lord is an engineer getting his MBA. I majored in Communications, yet I proofread his papers and helped write his grad school application. How about them apples!
