attempt in the seventh

Oh, you guys, I don’t even have an excuse for all this non-blogging I’ve been doing. This is probably the sixth or seventh post I’ve started in the last couple weeks – I just can’t get interested in it. But boy howdy, enough is enough and I’m gonna give it a solid try. Like, posting every single day. So. Here we go.

The Dork Lord and I are on week three of a three week cleanse. Which means… well, it means many things, but primarily it means that it’s been over two weeks since I’ve had a cup of coffee. No sugar? No big deal. No alcohol, bread or dairy? Eh, okay. But coffee? Even on a normal, non-restrictive day, I could shamelessly open-mouth kiss a cup of really good coffee in front of a crowd of impressionable school children, so you can imagine how lusty I feel right about now. Two weeks ago, I was feeling a little more murderous than lusty, but thankfully, my desire to stab people has decreased exponentially with each passing caffeine free day.

I know, I know. What kind of weirdos go on a cleanse during the holidays? These weirdos. The ones who were breaking zippers and on the verge of investing in wardrobes based solely on elastic waistbands. The ones who packed on 20lbs since they got married a short six months ago. And right after we wrap up the cleanse and our innards are free of toxins, we hop right into a 30 day fitness program and hopefully, be wearing our elastic-free jeans by New Years having celebrated every major winter holiday on lean protein and lots and lots of organic vegetables.

Meanwhile, I lick your empty coffee cup when you step away from your desk.

No, I don’t. But I think about it.

Oh wow, go you! I’m borderline envious; I’ve got the book to start the Primal Blueprint, and he suggests doing a similar cleanse before transitioning. I, however, do not have the willpower.

Feel free to make out with my coffee.

Super envious! I just got back from my first cruise and first vacation in 4 yrs, and ate my way to stretchy jeans! I wish I could do a cleanse like that but noone is touching my java.

  • Was a Dater

Also decide I’m going Primal til I get to work and see my coffee-less desk.

  • CaliGal

    Wow! Kudos to you both!

  • menderz

I did the Martha’s Vineyard cleanse. Only made it 2 weeks before I caved. As hard as the caffeine was to give up, it was NOTHING compared to giving up solid food. Its made me afraid of any other cleanse since.

    Oh my…. you’re a better woman that I!

  • The coffee pot’s in the sink full of hot water & suds. Dish liquid mingling with the dregs of the coffee pot, flavored with sulphur-heavy tap water. It’s artisanal. Enjoy.

Best of luck. I envy your willpower!

We are cleansing due to my burning desire not to buy the next size up skirt for christmas and i think people think after our wedding i must be expecting :0 and no we are not!!! But we are quick running out of inspiration for clean living meal ideas… are you following a particular cleansing diet and if so which one and good recipes to share???
We have the lean grilled/boiled chicken fish steak down pat with vegies but I need and want variety?

Yay! I love to see you posting! :)

Good for you! I did the Body for Life route about three courses and lost weight, but then all of a sudden, for no real “reason,” I just … got … bored with it and stopped going to the gym. :( I’ve been looking longingly at my gym bag, so maybe this week (or next) will be good, but you keep right on going, kiddo!!

  • Kristy Jammo – look up The Kind Diet…

  • So glad you’re back! Interested to hear the cleanse results when you’re done.

WAY TO GO! I started my “Insanity” Diet and fitness program about 3 weeks ago. I can drink coffee black so… As far as I’m concerned, I’m gold Jerry. But that’s awesome news! I think everyone has felt that – oh hey, hello there strange tightness in pants (deep breaths) zipper.up.Ah. (cue visions of the last time you ate ice cream out of the carton). Keep us updated!

    I feel your pain.

Fourteen months into marriage and I’m now solidly back in my “large” closet. I refuse to have an extra-large wardrobe so it’s back to running and Bikram.

    I’m on Day Six.

Also, Kristy Jammo – for variety, check to see if Bountiful Baskets (bountifulbaskets.org) is in your area. It seriously changed my life. For $16.50 a week, you get a basket of veggies and a basket of fruit, with no commitment. I swear, it’s like an episode of “Chopped” every Saturday when we pick up our basket — you never know what you’re going to get. I’ve become a kale-lover to the extreme. They also have an organic option for $10 more.

Sorry, Heather. I looked to see if there were Dallas locations. None yet, but they add locations all the time. It’s such a great way to stretch your food dollars and eat more vegetables and fruit. I generally just buy dairy/eggs/bread and meat at the grocery store now. (The bread is strictly for the carb-lover husband).

p.s. if you don’t want to advertise Bountiful Baskets, feel free to edit or send her a personal email. :) K

Well now I’m envious! I want Bountiful Baskets, dammit!

    • Man, me too! (Also in Dallas.) Who do we call?? : )

      • thisfish

In the growing season, the Dallas farmer’s market has a similar thing where you pay up front and then they give you a pallet of fruits and veggies every week. But it’s too big for just one family of 2. Maybe we could split one!

      • ~Kabe

Well, if you apprentice at another Texas site, then you could open up a Dallas site. It’s all volunteer run, so that’s why the costs are so low. Seriously, it’s ridiculous.

I used to post weekly photos on my FB. Here are a few snaps:

May 7: 3 jicama, a big bag of green beans, 10 red potatoes, 3 heads of broccoli, romaine lettuce, 2 cucumbers, 4 tomatoes on the vine, a pineapple, a box of blueberries, a box of strawberries, 4 bananas and a cantaloupe.

June 25: a cabbage, chard, 5 bananas, a box of strawberries, a box of grape tomatoes, 6 mangoes, 7 nectarines, 6 Granny Smith apples, 15 limes, 6 carrots, 2 celery, 6 plums and green onions

I try to buy local, but it’s hard to beat the cost and variety – and my grocery store buys from the same suppliers.

How funny, I started my 21 day cleanse the same day you entered week 3…I have the benefit of having had Thanksgiving and being done by December 19th…but it is keeping me from all the mid holiday snacking! The no coffee thing is hard…I drink tea…it helps a little. WAY TO GO!

  • Fish,

Welcome back, you were missed. I understand about how sometimes blogging just doesn’t “call” to you — I have the same thing sometimes. I blog in bursts… typically on Mondays it seems. I try to space them out, but I’m pretty horrible at it.

Good luck on your cleanse. You WILL feel better after it, but golly, did you say 3 weeks? That’s a fairly long one. But think of your sense of accomplishment! ? :::grin::: As for doing it over the holidays, I think it’s brilliant. Come January, everyone else will be feeling plump but not you! Good luck.

    Nice to see you again!
