Because there is almost nothing my mother likes better than feeding the masses, I invited a couple of holiday orphans to join us for Thanksgiving dinner this year. Now, since Sara and her fiance Jaime are new-to-me friends, I worried just a little beforehand that there might be a few awkward moments during the evening. I mean, what would they find to talk about with my mom and StepBob? Oh, what wouldn’t they find talk about! My worry was totally in vain. By the time we left that evening, I was pretty certain that my mom was looking into the legal processes involved in trading me in for Jaime. And he’s got her on speed dial in case he encounters a cheesecake emergency. For when it comes to crises of that nature, my mom is ON IT. Likewise, Sara and StepBob found common ground and suddenly there was high-fiving across the table over the shared love of… dumpster diving. I just sat back and watched the formation of two new Mutual Admiration Societies, while stealing bits of graham cracker crust from the serving plate. Which was about all the energy I could muster anyway, cracked out as I was on cold medicine and red wine. I know you’re not really supposed to mix the two (the verbiage on the box of medicine was very adamant on that point, in fact), but I figured, eh, why not? It was a holiday and the Universe seemed to be in a damn fine mood.
Glad to know that your holiday dinner was fun!
Hope you’re feeling even better soon!
My dirty little secret is out! At least StepBob understands me.
XOXO for you, mom and Bob.
I’m pretty sure that the instructions on medication boxes is adamant that you mix it with wine.
I laughed when I read this as I was doing the same darn thing: mixing cold/sinus infection medication with red wine.
I told my mom’s friend, “You only live once and I’m on vacation. I’ll have another glass.”
Hope you feel better soon!
There are fewer things better than being able to mix wine and cold meds while you’re sick. It’s actually the only thing I look forward to while I’m sick. Well, that, and the zero appetite bit. Things always fit so much better after I’m sick.
You poor thing – hope you’re feeling better! Glad your Thanksgiving was good even though you were sick.
Sorry to hear you weren’t feeling 100% on Thanksgiving, but glad you all had a good time! Given the number of those chiming in about mixing cold meds and wine, I feel compelled to speak up for everyone’s livers – be kind to them! Jaundice is not the new fake tan
While reading this post, there was a Fancy Feast ad out to the side. A fitting tribute to my favorite cat lady.
I don’t know why we aren’t supposed to mix those things. They’re friggin’ awesome together! Plus, livers are easily transplantable. You don’t even need a real match! Just someone with a liver larger than your own who has a bit to spare…
All of my meds say that. If I did not mix adult beverages with them I wouldn’t ever be able to drink and really where’s the fun in that?
That was a really, really cute story that made me warm inside. Glad your friends and family bonded.
My cold hit this week, forcing me to take “timebank” time yesterday. Today I’m at work, miserable or not.
Mucous in the headline? I was eating!
Cold meds knock me out always…can’t imagine what they’d do if wine got involved.
Glad you had a great Thanksgiving!! =) As for mixing the wine and cold meds, who doesn’t do that once in a while? lol
But as my baby nephew came out of his liver transplant just one day before thanksgiving, I gotta say that Mrs Greg House’s comment stung just for a tiny second. It took about 8 months to get a piece of a liver. I’m sure you weren’t 100% serious though……anyway, hope you feel better soon Fish!
Do you think this killer virus is a Texas thing? Here in Dallas, 70% of our family had it and soldiered on, obviously feeling miserable. I’ll have to remember the wine bit; maybe they would feel better, lol.
I, however, was one of the few who missed it. HA! So far. I have to fly next week, so I doubt I’ll miss it entirely. I’m going on an Echinecea/Vitamin C regime NOW and hope for the best. My world-traveler-very-cute-son-who-would-be-perfect-for-you didn’t get it either… guess this one hasn’t made the rounds in Mozambique.
heh
Red wine and cold medication have to get me through the holidays this year!
Red wine and cold medicine or feelings
You make the call.
