Out of curiosity, on a scale of One to Peg Bundy, how wrong is it to use your man’s electric razor to shave your legs?
I’m, uh, asking for a friend. Obviously.
Unrelated, I feel like maybe this was a Valentine’s gift for me (from Elana). This actually was a Valentine’s gift for me (from the Boy), which rocks my SVU-lovin’ face right off. Roses, schmoses! What else says love like, “I Huang to be with you!”? Nothin’, that’s what.
Well I knew you were a fan but WOW. lol Looks like your peeps have got you pegged. That’s awesome.
As for the razor… yea, not a good idea.
I never thought it was a big deal to use my guy’s razor, until he found out; then he freaked out. Apparently, it’s very bad form…lesson learned.
Can’t wrap my mind around the logistics. Does it tilt correctly? Was it a wet-dry shaver? Did it do a good job or are you just trying to make sure DL doesn’t have weird dreams about cacti?
My boy says shaving my legs with his electric razor makes it smell funny, like dead skin instead of face lotion. I will steal the manual razor, that just makes the blade dull faster than he’d like
It may be all in my mind, but I’m pretty sure that men’s razors give a better shave than women’s. So, I don’t need to tell you that I am a fan of stealing the man’s razor.
Like Laura J, I’ve been accused of making the (manual) blade dull faster, but that hasn’t stopped me yet.
I’d still ask permission first, though. And if he says no, you can always buy your own version of the same thing. Not that I have done this…but I totally have.
HA! at this question – I just used my dad’s this weekend to shave. I’d forgotten mine at home and was three states over visiting. Holy MACKREALS I loved it! Unfort he has one of those fancy, top of the line $150 ones. So I won’t be getting one any time soon.
This was all per his suggestion. I wouldn’t have even considered it without that.
I’ve used my hubby’s razor a few times and he doesn’t care…
Peg Bundy minus 2. Sorry.
my hubby says it makes the blade dull after just one use on my legs. i think he is over-exaggerating. i bought my own man razor and love it. it may be all in my head, but i think it gives a better shave. this way, i am happy and so is he.
I buy men’s razors (manual) because I think they give me a closer shave (I also buy manly shaving gel, because it’s cheaper… though I then have to wash off that after-shave-y smell ).
I’m not 100% sure on this, but I remember hearing about someone who got… some kind of a skin infection (MRSA?) from using her husband’s reg. razor. Not sure how often that happens, but it’s always scared me off using anyone else’s razor.
On the flip side, I *hate* when my man uses *my* razor – which just so happens to be a man’s razor because I, too, think they give a closer shave than girlie razors. I don’t even have a great reason – no, he doesn’t seem to get rid of every single hair from between the blades like I do. Yes, it might dull a little faster with his crazy thick scruff (this man has a 5 o’clock shadow by 10am). But really, I think it’s just because it seems like we should each have our own razors. Like we each have our own toothbrush.
(Don’t even get me started with people who share those….) *shudder*
heh, i used to use my dad’s electric razor when i still lived at home. for best use, i used it on dry legs and only for short term situations. the smoothness never lasted as long as straight blades.
Yeah, when BF found out i used his razor for my legs, he [rather strongly] suggested i buy my own. Bought a ladies version that was FAB for about 2 months then the blades started to dull and were $$$ to replace.
So, my verdict on electric razors? Great for travel situations and occasional use. the shave doesn’t last as long as a traditional, but great in a pinch or don’t have time to shower.
Well, my boy borrowed my razor and thought it did a better job than his own. I have the Venus Vibrating one and quite love it. Hey!!! maybe THAT’s what I can get him for V-day LOL
I never use his razor, but he uses my Schick Quatro all the time when staying at my apt. That coarse manly face-hair dulls the blade much faster.
Hi Fish,
I came across your website a while ago while doing some research for a blog of my own…also involving fish! I love the way your writing is both hilarious and poignant at the same time. I’ll certainly be going through your archives in short order.
shave?! ::sigh:: i need a bicycle more than i thought…
I don’t see any technical issues with it I think women’s leg hair is less coarse than men’s facial hair. And leg skin is less sensitive than the face. As for the “bad form” bit I say ask your man. Even if he says its cool I’d still side with separate electric razors just like the rest of your personal care items e.g. toothbrush, hairbrush, deodorant, etc. On a scale from 1 to Peg Bundy I think, Marge Simpson, certainly with blue hair she must take care of things but she is also frugal and practical minded.
OK, the male point of view.
Why stop at your legs? Use the thing on your underarms (and anywhere else you want) also! LOL
I have a pretty neat, lightweight, Panasonic electric razor. My wife has an electric of her own and she is deathly afraid of the straight razors (and I think she has never actually used one). I did catch her using my electric razor because she liked it better than her own, and I think it’s kind of gross. Well, it did solve the mystery of why the charge on my razor seemed to be going down so fast sometimes.
About ten years ago, when I first got a computer, that electric razor was one of the first things I bought online, through overstock.com. So my advice to all you ladies (and I mean this respectfully) is to go to web sites like that, or to Tuesday Morning and buy one of your own.
And why is it that replacement parts for the razor heads are so expensive? It can be almost as much as buying a whole new razor!
