real quick

UntitledI’ve been so remiss! Here’s a quick update before I sneak off to bed.

Charlie crawls, pulls himself up to stand and feeds himself. HE FEEDS HIMSELF. He gets mad if we eat cheese in front of him and don’t share. He likes beans and yogurt and squash and pears and… well, bacon. He loves bacon. He still has zero interest in drinking formula or breastmilk so the way this all works is that if at 12 months, he’ll start drinking cow’s milk, we can wean him off the button forever. I won’t lie. I’m willing to put chocolate in his milk to make that happen.

Whew! You really had me worried there. The 2 1/2 month gap had me terribly concerned. I’m so happy things are OK (so to speak.) I hope your holidays went well. You seem to have been blessed with a very special gift. Best wishes to you and your family in the coming new year.
As a side note, I’ve been an occasional visitor here since “azure & coincidence”, way back in 2003 and I don’t think I’ve ever commented on anything you’ve posted. I just wanted you to know that I appreciate your writing.

Congratulations!!! That’s such great news. Also, if he doesn’t take to cow’s milk, he may be just fine without it. My daughter was milk protein intolerant and on Neutramagen for her first 15 months, when we painstakingly transitioned her to cow’s milk since she had outgrown the intolerance. She drank cow’s milk for a few months until one day, at 18 months, it dawned on her that she didn’t have to drink it if she didn’t want to, and we couldn’t make her. She went from 18 oz. of milk one day to none the next, and she hasn’t had it since. And our pediatrician said she’ll be just fine, since, like your little, she loves cheese and yogurt and broccoli and oranges and all sorts of other calcium-rich foods. So really, if he’s eating real food, you’re probably past the worst of it.

Aw, so happy to hear this. Happy New Year, may 2015 bring you all good things!

Happy New Year and what wonderful news that he is thriving!! I wouldn’t worry about the cow’s milk. My son hated milk and never drank it. His pediatrician told us that as long as he had cheese, yogurt, ice cream and all other dairy that he would be fine. Boy does he love yogurt!! He is 3 now and will have a little cow’s milk with cereal, but that’s it. I know each child is different, just wanted to share our experience. Good luck!!!

Grinning ear-to-ear. Charlie is EATING!!!! So happy for him and you.

I am sure things will go fine from here on out, but one thing you could try when you get to the cow milk stage, besides (or in addition to?) chocolate and/or other flavorings — color. My cousin’s daughter did not go through Charlie’s hurdles but was very picky and would not drink much cow’s milk without a lot of coaxing. But when she put a few drops of natural food coloring in and swirled it around it became more interesting to her, like a game, and she started slurping it down.

In any case, hugs and happiness. What a great posting to start the New Year!

  • SOOOO happy to read that he is doing well and enjoying food. I missed the last post and just want to add to the choir: Go mommy. Do what is right for you all.
    Hugs from across the pond.

This great news was just what I hoped to see. It made me really smile on my first day back at work after the long holiday break. Like others who have posted, I’ve been reading your blog for a while now and this is the first time I have commented.

I am so happy to see what great strides forward you’ve all made together and hope that 2015 brings you all everything you wish for. And isn’t he the cutest little chap ever!!

He is so stinking cute! He looks healthy and happy. I actually did start putting chocolate flavoring in my kid’s milk, in the form of chocolate protein powder. Like your little guy, she was always a very difficult eater and flat out refused formula, so her pediatrician okayed milk at around 10 months. Which she again refused unless it was chocolatey. You gotta do what you gotta do.
