Sometimes I miss waking up in New York. Especially on the weekends when I want to do something and nothing all at the same time. The City is good for sublime adventures in nothingness. An iced coffee and a meander in Central Park. The man behind the bodega counter always seemed a bit relieved to see me, maybe because my presence meant that the pot of room-temperature joe wouldn’t go to waste on winter days when the sky was sulking. A dollar twenty-five beginning to an afternoon of bliss. And when you’ve got $4.28 in your checking account, even that feels a little like decadence.
I miss New York today. Broke and bored in Dallas, Texas is a terrible cocktail.
Hopefully it’s at least a Delux Snuggie.
I miss Philadelphia today. Broke and bored in Abilene, Texas is a terrible cocktail too.
Yeah but being in love with someone termed, “the dork lord,” and attending princess lunches with his sister in Disney world kind of makes up for it…dontcha think?
Broke, bored and rainy in Atlanta also sucks.
I must say I’m very impressed with your debt payment success this year. I was unemployed for 9 months in 2009 (something I know you are familiar with) and trying to dig out of that financial shitstorm even though I now have a job. By 2011, I hope I’m at least in a better position. . .
Any tips you have would be greatly appreciated.
I can completely understand. I have $8 in my checking account and would kill for a cheap cup of coffee! I just might have to indulge myself this morning…
I love days like that too! And New York is perfect for them…I’ve never lived there but try as I might to have days like that in Chicago, however, bot the lack of funds and CRAP weather typically limit my abilities to do so. But…the Puppy Bowl is on around 3 today, and that’s free!
And then here is a different perspective… I just moved back to Dallas from Eagle River, AK. And although I totally agree that DFW has it’s moments of being uninspired and boring… There is far more to do here than in rural Alaska! Ha ha.
I miss New York too. (Haven’t been back since 1999.)
The sights. The smells. The sounds.
I can relate, Fish. Thanks for the memory.
I have been broke & bored in Dallas before (now I’m just kinda broke in Houston) and I would truck my arse over to the Katy Trail with my journal & camera and just camp out on a bench, write about hopes and thoughts and try to figure out ways to better myself or just try to catch some pics of random people in their own worlds. It’s not the most fun you will have but it’s cheap, a creative outlet and who knows what characters you might meet along the way…
PS – um did you hear about Elliot Stabler’s leave at the end of the season. I am so devastated. It won’t be the same without him!
I feel ya, I grew up in and spent most of my adult life in a I live in a very small town in Minnesota these days… the thing I miss the most is the large variety of eating places, and shopping malls… or for that matter any shopping place other than walmart that is less than 20 miles away. I mostly love it here… but sometimes..
When I moved from tampa florida to atlanta georgia I had the same feeling about not having the beach to go to! Bring snacks and drinks from home and hit the beach….great inexpensive day!
Um, what beach? Dallas is landlocked. Also? It’s 40 degrees here.
PREACH sister!
I do not get the snuggie thing as I prefer blankets, but I can relate to the coffee part.
